A Quick Chat w/ Future Static

1: Big congratulations on signing to Wild Thing Music Group and Wild Thing Records. How did these achievements come about?

Over the past few years, we’ve invested more and more of our own time and money into improving our songwriting, musicianship, and on-stage performance.

We’ve managed to continue to impress the crowds and the individuals we’ve been working alongside. Still, more recently, we started working with Jayden Roy as our booking agent (Yeah That Agency & Destroy All Lines), and he invited Eli Chamravi (Wild Thing Music Group and Records) to our last show before the last Melbourne lockdown, and we caught his attention. It took a couple of months of meetings and in-depth discussions, but we both REALLY wanted to work with each other, and we couldn’t wait to sign our label and management deal with Wild Thing.

2: With your new single ‘Waves’, how did you all go about the songwriting process? Was it a different approach compared to previous works?

‘Waves’ started as the brainchild of our resident wizard: Ryan Qualizza, who wrote 90% of the song. Then each of us stepped in to add our flavours and flares to complement his work. But it was ultimately Ami that took the song up to the next level with her incredible vocals.

3: How was working alongside the production team of Christopher Vernon and Sam Bianco?

Bro, CV and Bianco are always legends to work with. CV worked with us in pre-production, and he always makes work a laid-back and easy process; he has a great mind for songwriting.

Bianco is a wizard in the studio too. Coming up with minor tweaks and ideas on the fly as we recorded drums, all of the little additions, different transitions, and exploring different patterns to help solidify the song's progression and emotion.

4: Watching the music video, we love the visuals; they really work well with the themes that the lyrics portray. Who came up with the concept?

We worked with our long-time friend Liam Davidson (Lord Media) to develop the concept and visuals together. All the ideas in the world wouldn’t have come together the same without Liam’s creative mind and dedication to his craft. There were many on-the-fly changes to the shot list, and the original narrative we had needed to change due to restrictions; we had to work under (Covid lock-down). But the final product is something we can really be proud of.

5: Huge congratulations on getting booked for Knight & Day Festival and Uncaged Festival! Out of both lineups, are there any acts you are most excited to share the stage with?

I’m so stoked to share a stage with Parkway Drive, Trophy Eyes, Hellions, Void of Vision, Terra and Polaris. I’ve looked up to all these bands throughout my music career, and I can’t wait to have an opportunity to rub shoulders with them at Knight & Day. But I can speak for the rest of the band when I say we can’t believe we’re sharing a stage with Parkway. That’s such a ridiculous idea that we thought we’d have to wait to get years from now.

7: When can we expect more music from Future Static?
After the release of Waves (24/11/2021), we have another few releases planned for 2022 and an even bigger release planned 12 months from now. So, y’know “big things coming” or something like that.
