A Quick Chat with Blanco Tranco

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the title ‘Get Back To Me When It’s Over?’
Tiff: We were playing around with the idea of the phone and the first line of Swim Between the Flags which is, “don’t call me back.” But we couldn’t find anything that fit. I came up with this while trying to relate those things with the actual content of the EP, because it’s really centred around struggling with mental health and trying to navigate relationships through tough times. So, ‘Get Back To Me When It’s Over’ just seemed to fit. Like, ‘I know you’re struggling right now, so am I, just let me know when we can pick things back up again’ type beat.

Is there a particular moment / lyric that stands out the most across these six tracks?
Tiff: For me, it’s definitely ‘So who do you want me to be? Fuck that, I’m still only twenty,’ in Petrichor which makes me laugh now. I wrote the lyrics when I was 21, and at the time it only seemed like a minor stretch but at 25 it now feels a bit more like a lie! But really, I think it kind of sums up a lot of how I felt writing a lot of these songs, I was feeling so hurt, unwell & taken advantage of and just wanted to reclaim myself and my youth.

What influences your songwriting the most?
Tiff: I think when I’m incredibly inspired by another artist I get the creative energy to want to actually get up and write something. But the content truly just comes from the jumbles of my head, I usually work out what it means at some point!
