A QUICK CHAT WITH GOING SWIMMING

Congratulations on the release of ‘All Dressed Up To Cry’ – how does it feel having the song finally out?

We're super relieved to have it out. Writing and recording songs is easy but there's a lot of work that goes into a release and we're proud to finally see some reward for effort. I hope people like it.

Can you sum up your sound in three words for someone that hasn’t heard your music before?
Summer loving fun.

It’s incredible that the song was self-produced, can you talk to us about the process of creating the track?
This song was put together during the lockdowns, so we had no choice but to produce it the way we did. It was quite a creative time because writing music was one of the few luxuries we had.

The process for this one began with Aswin writing and recording all the instruments on a demo and then sending it over to us with the title 'All Dressed Up to Cry'. Aswin and I had previously had conversations about the context of what the lyrics came to be, so I feel like I completely understood the title and managed to piece together what I believe is a fairly true reflection of what he and many of us were experiencing at that time. Then it was just a matter of finding a melody to match the music and the lyrics and we've got ourselves a song

What have been some of your most notable experiences to date as a band?
Our beach themed launch that we did for our first EP 'The Shark Attack EP' was pretty memorable. It was at the Grace Darling, and from memory, probably our first headline show. The place was packed out with all our friends, wearing our t-shirts, and singing our songs, it was just a really fun night and I'm sure we can all say, a really special time in our lives.

Nick splitting the backside out of his shorts mid-way through a show was also quite a notable experience.

Walk us through what to expect at a Going Swimming live show.
Infectious, raucous energy and good fun, we like to move around a lot. We pride ourselves on performing the same way, no matter the circumstances of the show. In sport they probably call that white line fever. I still love it when people come and see us for the first time, or someone invites a friend, and they don't really know what to expect and then they pour their shock onto us after the show. It's so nice to be able to make people happy while also having so much fun ourselves.

Do you have any upcoming live shows for fans to catch the latest track?
We're currently putting together a launch show for later in the year, which we hope to announce really soon.
