A QUICK CHAT WITH CYRIL

Tell us about your recent EP’s ‘From Down Under’ and ‘To The World’? What do they represent for you?

I wanted to showcase that I can make and enjoy making different genres. Stumblin In’ has been a huge success, and while it may have given some the impression that I only produce pop music, I actually have a passion for creating a variety of genres, from House to Tech House and even Techno. I want to show that I can make tunes that are perfect for any occasion, whether you're on a road trip or dancing in dark dinghy club at 4 a.m.

And how did the collaboration come about for ‘Fall At Your Feet’ with Dean Lewis?

I randomly started following him on TikTok and messaged him just to tell him how dope his music is. To my surprise, he replied suggesting we collaborate on a song together. I thought, "Wow, this is so cool!

What’s your creative process like? How do you choose which songs to recreate?

I don't follow a specific creative process, but I often spend hours on Spotify exploring various songs. As I listen, I imagine how altering certain elements could enhance the track.

Every song I work on aims to evoke a specific emotion; for instance, "Stumblin' In" I hope simply brings joy to listeners as that’s what I feel when I listen.

As a multi-instrumentalist, where do you start with your music production?

This really varies depending on who I’m working with but usually I start by writing the chords on a piano and then following that I write the bass notes that usually sets a nice vibe for me to work on.

And can you tell us about your musical background? Where did it all start?

Growing up in a tiny town of only 125 residents, the highlight was our single pub that hosted live music. My dad often took me there, and I was captivated by the performers, thinking to myself how incredibly cool it all was.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations? And who are you really enjoying right now?

My musical tastes really depend on my mood! I'm a big fan of Fred Again for his evolving, high-quality production in the electronic genre. However, I also draw inspiration from a diverse array of artists like David Guetta, whose significant impact on music is undeniable, as well as legends like Prince and Elvis Presley.

What would be your advice to young producers wanting to make a career for themselves?

Keep showing up. Some days, I create amazing music; other days, it feels like I accomplish nothing. Yet, the key is to keep chipping away.

What does the rest of the year look like for you?

Well I have my first American tour from September to October, followed by a trip to Amsterdam for ADE. After that, I'll be back home, hosting my own ticketed shows, which is both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking!
