A QUICK CHAT WITH ABROAD

Can you tell me a bit about your inspiration for your single Coffee’?’

As we both love a coffee, we felt we owed it a song. It’s always there when we need a lift, a kick start and a warm hug. Will also works in the coffee industry and I love drinking it. This correlates to love and the energy/ buzz  you can get not just from coffee but relationships and people around you. Wanting someone and getting their full “fire” is a beautiful feeling. Coffee was inspired by the excitement of love, whether it be receiving it or giving it.

What are your influences and how do they affect your songwriting?

We’re always experimenting with sounds. Whether that be with our electronic equipment, instruments or vocals. We play around and find something that we both raise our eyebrows to. Both being singers we love the experimentation of Melodie’s and hooks that we then add layers/ support around.

What’s the creative process like for you?

We both like to find a backbone that we can with. Whether that’s a synth, piano or guitar chord progressions. Sometimes that stays and sometimes it doesn’t. Following that is layers. While we’re bobbing along and adding beats etc we are humming or a long. Or at the very end we add the vocals, this can click straight away or we go away and come back.

If you could change something about the Australian music industry what would it be?

Australia has a great music scene and has incredible talent. If anything, we’d like to be more involved in it.

What do you think life would be like for you if you didn’t have music as an outlet?

Bland. Cold. Dark. Everyone has an outlet, everyone needs an outlet. Outlets really help your happiness.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?  Why?

Yes, lots! When you collaborate you learn, we love to learn new things. But other artists would be Bob Moses, Elderbrook, Hayden James and Dom Dolla. Just to name a few, why these artists? Similar genre to us and I think they’re the ones who are pushing and experimenting to go to the next level. Very talented artists in their own right.

What’s your advice to young people who want to make a career for themselves in the industry?

Just keep swimming. Find the noise you love and go for it. You will get a few knock backs but things happen for a reason, keep pushing.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve worked with/met?

Good question. I think everyone in the creative realm has their own little quirky personalities. To name one I think would be unfair on others.

Any plans for a tour on the cards?

Absolutely! We have gigs coming out of our ears (head to our socials to see dates/venues) but we are lining up a tour post album release in July. This will be most of the East Coast of Australia and down to Tasmania. After that, hopefully we can get overseas.
