A Quick Chat with Amalia

Congrats on your debut single ‘Electric Rush’! Can you tell us a bit about the song’s meaning?

Thank you so much! ‘Electric Rush’ is a mix of love, life and adrenaline- starting off as a song about forbidden love then turning into a song about breaking the mould of everyday life. Whether it be love, heartbreak or freedom, we all have experienced that ‘rush’ as we embark on testing the waters, stretching the rules and taking a chance.  I really wanted my debut song to feel like the celebration of an emotional breakthrough as that is what I went through during its creation!  Whether it be love, heartbreak or freedom, we all have experienced that electric, pulsating ‘rush’ as we embark on testing the waters, stretching the rules and taking a chance. I want listeners to feel that.

We hear you have well over an album’s worth of music on the way! What’s the writing process looking like at the moment?

In terms of the songwriting process, it has been a crazy ride as I began working alongside a producer (turned close friend) at Red Door Studios called Julian.  We ended up doing 2-3 full day sessions a week and over the course of 12 months we wrote and recorded two albums worth of material.  It’s been a crazy and quite unconventional process in that we usually begin a song in the morning and by the end of the evening we strive to have the final song done - usually in the early hours of the morning. It’s an exhilarating feeling getting to drive home listening to a song that was built the same day! We have lived and breathed these songs and in the process have consumed copious amounts of Rita’s pizza.

Who would you consider your biggest influences (musical or non musical)?

The freedom of the 70s and the psychedelic rock movement gave birth to many of the artists I become obsessed with- Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush to name a few. I am a huge lover of writing from scratch in the studio and letting songs come to life through experimenting with sounds. We all take inspiration from the classics, so I wanted to make a song that paid homage to the artists that came before me.

When you’re not making music, what might we find you doing?

Since Covid stripped me of my early adulthood travel, I am constantly playing catch up! You won’t catch me without a plane ticket booked somewhere in the world… currently dreaming of sitting back in a jazz club in New Orleans and catching a bullet train in Tokyo

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive) who would they be?

Stevie Nicks- if the freedom of the 70s had a theme song, she wrote it on her ‘Rumours’ Fleetwood Mac album

Adele- she has it all as a woman in the industry: a voice that speaks truth and raging banter to match

Gweneth Paltrow- the book writes itself

What was the first concert you ever went to?

My first ever concert was Taylor Swift in her ‘Fearless’ era back in 2008…. True Swifty over here

What’s in store for the rest of 2024?

Truthfully, getting straight back into the studio and writing! Haha but I am really keen to see where Electric Rush takes us as a debut as we keep building and building. We’ve got a sold out Single Launch show (with a second on the way to selling out) coming up in June with a bunch of support gigs and collaborations lined up! With over 2 albums worth of material, ‘Electric Rush’ is only just a little taste of what’s to come… I am sure another single will be out extremely soon!
