Congrats on the release of ‘Mumma Gave Me’! Can you give us a deeper dive into the song’s meaning?

Thank you so much! When I write music in general, I write lyrics that make me feel like I can take over the world and that give me the confidence to be 100% authentically me. Through my music, not only do I want to feel more confident & empowered within myself, I want to empower and inspire other people (women in particular) to feel the same.

I couldn’t be the woman I am today without the presence and the unwavering support of my Mum. This song is an ode to her and everything she’s given me. She’s given me the ability to be confident, to love myself and to just be unapologetically me. With what my mum has given me, I want to give the same to all women everywhere through my music and through life.

What first drew you to become a musician and singer?

I’ve always been a singer/performer even before I had taken up any lessons. My first memory of me being a singer was probably when I used to dance & sing in front of the tv to Shakira’s ‘Whenever, Wherever’ as a toddler. I’ve always loved how confident music has made me feel and how it’s allowed me to be the best version of me, it really wasn’t hard to draw me into music really.

You’re influenced by a lot of 90s/00s artists, but who are you loving right now?

I’m a massive fan of Kendrick Lamar and have been for a minute! I’m also loving Raye, Victoria Monet, and Sabrina Carpenter lately, they’re absolutely killing it.

What was the first gig you ever attended?

As a kid, I think my first gig was ‘The Wiggles’ haha but the first international artist I saw was ‘Christina Aguilera’ when she came to Sydney for her ‘Back to Basics’ World Tour. It was absolutely incredible and really opened my eyes to what was possible as an artist.

What show are you bingeing at the moment?

OMG definitely Bridgerton right now I literally binge watched part 1 of season 3 on release day - honestly can’t get enough! I love Heartbreak High too! So iconic!

Dream collab?

Omg this is hard… if I had to pick, I’d love to collab with Timbaland & Missy Elliot on a track together - both are such icons and would love to cook something crazy with them!

What’s in store for the rest of 2024?

New music for sure! Currently working on a project that I’m wanting to release closer to the end of the year - there are more singles on the way before the full project becomes available which I’m super excited for. This project definitely represents who I am as a person and has come from such a place of growth that it’s different from anything I’ve previously released!
