A Quick Chat with Arches

Congrats on the release of ‘Arches Mixtape’! How does it feel now to have the EP out?

Thanks! It feels really great hey. We’re still young when it comes to being a band / production duo so putting stuff out can be a bit daunting, but we’re trying to just start putting stuff out now consistently.

Can you tell us a bit behind the EP and what it’s about?

We’re constantly creating new music and now that we have such a big cache of finished songs, we decided it’s time to start putting it all out there in the forms of bodies of work. So this is the first rendition of that, and despite it being all over the place in terms of genre, we’re really stoked on it and love it a lot.

How was the creative process while you were writing ‘Arches Mixtape’?

(SAM speaking) For most of our tracks it usually goes a little like this. Mason writes and produces the main idea or beat then will send it over to me. I usually demo a top-line and add some prod here and there. From there, we go back and forth and then take that into the studio for final vocal takes and cleaning up the production. Then mason mixes it all squeaky clean like. That’s basically how we always write because we actually live about an hour and a half apart.

You have seen an impressive amount of support from your previous releases through Triple J and more, what has been the standout moment for you in terms of that support and / or any other achievements as an artist?

Honestly, any time they play our music it means a lot to us. I mean there’s only 24 hours in a day. To give our music like 4 minutes, when we’re just two country kids making bedroom beats, is great. We appreciate any support <3!!

Have you got any live shows coming up?

Unfortunately, we having nothing set in stone right now because Mason is living overseas studying for just a few months, so once he’s back on the ground from Japan in Australia, we’ll move in on the live scene.

Now that ‘Arches Mixtape’ is out – what is coming next for Arches?

We’re currently working on an album that will be out around October :) and we’re going gig hard this year. That’s about it really!
