A Quick Chat with Beach Bleach

Congrats on your new EP ‘I Can See Through You’! What’s the idea behind the title?

I Can See Through You tells a story across its five cuts, taking listeners on a ride to meet nefarious characters. It brings an underdog perspective with a bit of dry humour.

For those new to Beach Bleach, tell us about the band?

In Beach Bleach we try to capture the style of each band member, bending, breaking and blending, to create a wild sound. Amaru is the beat maker and guitarist, bringing the psych, break beats and grunge. Luna is the bassist, getting down with funk, groove and acid bass. Isis is the singer, captivating you with soul, R&B and jazz.

We all love getting down to different live shows together, usually ending up at our local dive bar having some tequila fish bowls. We’re all very passionate about the arts and enjoy creating different visual art too.

How did the new EP come together?

Each song on I Can See Through You comes from the original starting tracks that built Beach Bleach.

How would you describe the sounds of the five tracks on the release?

The rich, red velvet sounds of Nothing to Lose take you downtown with the swinging beats, a running bass and a get-away guitar.

Love You Later is a rebellious punk rock track subverting the idea of what a break-up song might be. The experimental composition seeks to create that hair raising, static feel.

Shoe Box switches things up with sounds that reflect and shimmer, creating an eerie tension against the pulsating kicks and snares.

Waiting is a breakbeat-infused, distorted, genre-blurring track, opening with atmospheric, swirling synths that are soon met with driving drum breaks, before kicking into overdrive with distorted guitars.

I Can See Through You closes out the EP with ripping bass lines, four to the floor kicks, a revving guitar and edgy soul-fuelled vocals.

What do you hope people take away from I Can See Through You?

We hope that people are intrigued by the music, can relate to the story-telling in their own way and have the last laugh.

What’s coming up next for Beach Bleach?

We’re super excited for our launch party which is happening on the Friday 11 August at Convenients. We are also keen to be bringing our live set far and wide and will keep experimenting sonically and visually.
