A QUICK CHAT WITH BUFFALO PARADISE

Can you tell us the story behind ‘Gunfight’?

‘Gunfight’ is a song about mental battles in an ever-changing and uncertain world.

Through COVID lockdowns, we found ourselves living in a world where our profession

no longer existed. We found that we were way less prepared for that than we thought we would be. The metaphor of the song is essentially about bringing a knife to a Gunfight.

The music video has a fun old Western feel. Can you tell us more about that?

When we wrote Gunfight, we knew the film clip had to be a Western. Although, the challenge was pulling it off! What better way to do it than to have 10 of us stay at a leaking ranch in the Megalong valley amid La Nina. After avoiding flash floods en-route to location, we had around 7 hours of blue sky to get everything done. There were snakes, spiders and sinking sand, however, months of planning paid dividends and we did it. The premise is that Lachie is a cowboy bandit on the run, having just ditched his gang ‘The Buff Boys’ and stolen their fortune. The rest of the band are ‘The Buff Boys’ on a manhunt for Lachie and

the stolen cash. The climax takes place at an abandoned ranch that Lachie has been

hiding out at. The boys engage in a gunfight. Lachie eventually appears to

surrender, but has a knife held behind his back.

How would you describe your music to your grandparents?

Despite Lachie’s grandparents being our biggest fans and would need no explanation, we’d tell them that they’d be dancing to us at their favourite RSL clubs and would have a Gold Class cinema experience if the film clip came on.

If you could perform at any festival of your choice, which one would it be?

Lost Paradise as I think it’s the only festival that everyone in the band has been to, and also suits our vibe. But also, Coachella lol.

Which artist/band is your dream collaboration with?

  1. Lime Cordiale

  2. Gang of Youths

  3. King Stingray

  4. (but actually, The Veronicas, Nickelback, Kanye West, etc.)

Can we expect any live shows from Buffalo Paradise in the near future?

We’re playing at Waywards on May 6th to celebrate the release of Gunfight, we’re bringing Zali Monroe and The Chats along for the ride. Also, very excited to be supporting Coterie on their East Coast tour at The Great Club on August 4.
