A QUICK CHAT WITH CHRISITAN ADJEISA

Congratulations on your release ‘Secrets’!

How long have you been waiting to release the track and how does it feel to finally have it out?

Thank you, it's been a long time coming. I wrote and recorded the song just as a demo last year after a break up. I had a lot of creative energy and as I was in between jobs, a lot of free time. I just banked it after it was recorded and kept working on a whole bunch of other stuff, it was sort of like therapy for me. I was able to collect my thoughts and emotions and used music as a tool to move forward and in doing this I definitely evolved not only as an artist but also personally.  I’ve always admired artists that can take a negative or hard situation and turn it into something positive and beautiful. It’s super hard to do, being so open and honest with yourself firstly, and then to actually put it out in the world for it to be judged. It’s a strange feeling for sure, but I always remember how certain songs by certain artist really help me through tough times. Being able to relate to someone else’s story or lyrics is so powerful because in that moment you are understood and you realise, you’re not alone. So, in saying that if anything I do in music has had that effect on even one person then it’s all worth it.

For people that haven’t heard your music before, what are some things they can expect?

You can definitely expect a catchy melody I think that’s one of the things I do quite well. I definitely pay a lot of attention to that and making the music memorable. I think song structure is so fascinating, and I love blending different genres and experimenting with instruments, so you’ll be hearing a range of stuff from me, from pop to rap and rock. I don’t feel like I should have to pick one I really like everything so the music I make of course is going to reflect some of that.

Who are some artists that inspire you and what do you draw from their music?

Tracy Chapman - I like her storytelling and how she paints stories so vivid in your mind you feel as if your experiencing the things she’s saying and the emotion.

Tyler The Creator - the way he blended rap and skate culture is what got me into music in the first place I was very inspired by his movement and I love his personality.

Chief Keef - Keef's music just found me at the right time. I was listening to a lot of trap or rap and his stuff just felt authentic and something about the dude is just so effortlessly cool I have a tattoo of him, and he’s actually the reason I started growing dreadlocks.

When you’re not creating music, how do you spend your time?

I work full time as a welder so that’s my day to day, music happens when I’m able to make time, but it’s the struggle every up-and-coming artist understands. I gotta pay the bloody rent, but other than that I love playing pool down the Botany View Hotel with the lads or watching some live music or even a dj at Alcatraz, those are my two spots, so if you see me there come say hey.

What are your plans to kick off 2024?

I got heaps of music on the way, 2024 will be a good year, I just signed with new management so working with a team for the first time has already been a win. I just want to learn and take in as much as possible and yeah play some shows along the way so I’m looking forward all of that in the New Year.
