A QUICK CHAT WITH DOPAMINE

Congratulations on the new track! Such a moving track. Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind it?

It all started from a drum sample I found. I was playing it on loop and just jamming over it on guitar. Out of nowhere I started playing that lead line and the rest fell into place after that. I also was listening to a lot of the band ‘Ride’ at the time, so I wanted to try to make an outro like Vapour Trail.

I was in a rocky relationship at the time, so that kind of acted as the inspiration for the lyrics. Sometimes when you’re going through shit, things just come out as a way of dealing with it. I wasn’t intending on writing it about anything really, the lyrics just kind of fell into place and it wasn’t until after that I realised what I was writing about.

How did you guys start writing and creating music together?

All of us met at university and used to see each other out at gigs all the time. We hung out with the same friend group and realised that we were all into similar music. From there we began jamming together and it all started from that really.

I hear you have an accompanying video coming out with this track. Looks like you had a lot of fun with this one! What were you trying to convey with this video?

Well, we were watching MTV classics at a mate’s place one night and a bunch of 90s music videos were playing. They didn’t seem to have a solid concept at all, but they were very entertaining, which we thought would be perfect for us because none of us can act. So, we hit up Josh Hickie and told him what we were planning, and he just took it from there. He’s a legend, so it was a really fun video to make! I guess at the end of it all, we just wanted to capture what the band is about.

Can we expect more music from you guys soon?

Oh yeah big time. We’re gonna be releasing a lot of music this year!

Are you playing at any shows in the near future?

Yeah, we’re going on tour in April. We’re playing at:
- Penny’s, Melbourne - 22 April
- The Wavebowl, Port Macquarie – 30 April
- Hiway Bar, Sydney – 12 May
- Dicey Riley’s, Wollongong – 14 May

Are there any artists you’re hoping to collaborate with in the future?

A collab with RÜFÜS DU SOL would be sick. Like a rock/dance collab. I reckon we could make something work.
