A Quick Chat with Du0

Congratulations on your latest release ‘LIFT’. What are the themes central to the overall EP?

As a whole I wanted the EP to sonically be an uplifting experience (hence the name LIFT) but wanted to continue to explore a range of themes lyrically from darkness to light to reflect the ups and downs of life.

What was it like working with Emily Coulston on tracks ‘Overflow’, ‘Come Home’ & ‘Gone Away’?

Amazing!  I've worked with Emily on quite a few songs now and she delivers every time.  Her super chill vocal style, I think really compliments my music.

You’ve produced your way through lots of different electronic production styles, how did you come across this artform and how has it helped you with self-expression?

I grew up playing in punk and metal bands and then folk bands, but always dabbled with samplers and turntables along the way.  After having children, it became harder and harder to get out and practice with my band mates, so I focused on skilling up in electronic production and that's how du0 was started.

What’s been your greatest career highlight so far?

I played my first live show last year and managed to sell It out…. having a packed room singing my tracks and sharing the stage with some good mates was a real buzz and definitely a highlight!

Artists have such long lists of influences. Are there any you distinctly admire? Anyone who may have had a long-lasting impact on your creative processes and approach?

I've always had a quite traditional approach to song writing and Nick Cave definitely has had the biggest long-lasting effect on my creative processes.  He taught me that It's important not to wait for the vagaries of inspiration, but to sit down and just start writing.

What’s coming up later in the year for Du0 after ‘LIFT’?

My plan is to continue to release music consistently and I'm also playing a festival (Waghorn to West) in my hometown of Ipswich which I'm really excited about.
