A Quick Chat with Eaglemont

Congrats on the release of ‘Party Boy’! Can you tell us a bit about the album and the meaning of the title?

Hey thanks so much! This record has certainly been a long time coming so I am so excited to finally have it see the light of day! The title track ‘Party Boy’ was funnily enough the last song to be written and recorded for the album itself. In a tongue in cheek sort of fashion it references the dichotomy of the facade of a Party Boy, but when faced with reality, the archetype is hiding several tender, romanticised and deeply personal experiences as expressed through each song on the album.

I ended up using the title ‘Party Boy’ as I believe it tied all of the different threads running through each song into one nice bow.

Do you have a favourite song on the record?

Ooof, very hard to pick a favourite child! I suppose at any point or another, each of the songs could have been a favourite. The first song that springs to mind is Normanby. This track has always been my favourite to play live. For some reason the guitar fits better in my hands and the melody is more familiar. Each time I play any one of the songs on the album however, I get to take a walk through the experiences to be borne of in the song.

When you’re not making music, what might we find you doing?

Well for one, my ‘Party Boy’ days are certainly over. Most likely you’ll find me at my full time job attempting to sustain a career in music haha. When I’m not working I’m either watching my beloved Carlton Blues, downing alcohol free guinness and razzing up the long dog (LV the greyhound). You’ll probably catch me at any one of my talented friend’s shows, doom scrolling on the internet or spending time with my fiance and close mates.

What are the first three songs you’d add to your ultimate ‘Party Boy’ playlist?

‘Expert In A Dying Field’ - The Beths
‘Atlantic City’ - Bruce Springsteen
‘Strangers’ - Ethel Cain

Who are your biggest influences (musical or non musical)?

The reason I started playing guitar and singing in the first place was because I went and saw Missy Higgins play when I was 14 and lost my mind. Dallas Green (City & Colour) was hugely important to me and informed a lot of my songwriting as a teenager.
Before that my favourite composer was Edward Elgar (I was a violin nerd)

Since I entered my 20’s I’ve been hugely inspired by the likes of Soccer Mommy, Phoebe Bridgers, Courtney Barnett, Alex Lahey, Snail Mail, The Japanese House, Ethel Cain and as of late Mk.gee’s new album has been on repeat since it’s release this year.

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive) who would they be?

Jeff Buckley
Chappell Roan
Bec Stevens

What was the first concert you ever went to?

The Wiggles (went absolutely off)

What’s in store for the rest of 2024?

Honestly I’ve been grinding for years to get my debut album out, and this has taken up so much of my brain that I can’t wait to let it fly free, so probably a big rest after some ripping shows.
