A Quick Chat with Ellery Cohen

Can you tell me a bit about your inspiration for your single ‘Demons’

I wrote Demons with a couple of friends up in Sydney “The no frill twins”. Wanted to write a song about the struggles that we all kind of experience in life. Demons is about accepting the things in life that you can’t change.

What are your influences and how do they affect your songwriting?

Biggest influence  Ryan Tedder…
won’t lie I have a massive man crush.. the dude is an amazing songwriter and artist in his own right.

What’s the creative process like for you?

I write each song very differently. Sometimes I have a concept that I want to work through sometimes I have like a line, sometimes I have a melody. Each song is very different and i approach it in a different way. For Demons we had nothing and we started fully from scratch.

If you could change something about the Australian music industry what would it be?

I’d love it to be about the music and only the music.

What do you think life would be like for you if you didn’t have music as an outlet?

I don’t think I would be mentally stable, music is not just what I  love but it’s what I need and is so important for my mental health.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?  Why?

Ryan Tedder. Please call me I’m available 24/7 for your call

What’s your advice to young people who want to make a career for themselves in the industry?

Just keep writing and networking. Be yourself and work hard.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve worked with/met?

I really enjoyed working with the no frill twins on this new single. I would say they have been my favourite so far

Favourite hangover cure?

My best advice for a hangover is to not drink the night before.

Also water is your friend

Any plans for a tour on the cards?

Once we can tour safely it’s on the cards for sure
