A Quick Chat with Emily Grace Taylor

‘Till The Day’ is such a beautiful song! What is the story behind it?

Thank you! This song was written by one of my oldest and dearest friends and tells the story of a person losing their life partner - it’s an ode to those memories and a love that lasts a lifetime. I usually write my own songs, but this one has always been special to me and connects me to a really meaningful time and place in my history. So, when I began creating music for this project, this song just kept coming up in my mind and I felt like it was the perfect way to set the tone for the kind of sound and energy I want to be sharing.

What are your influences and how do they affect your songwriting?

I’m inspired by so many different things - anything that moves me. Music, books, film, art... but musically a few influences would be Lee Hazelwood, Chris Isaak, Gillian Welch, Dolly Parton, Mazzy Star. I love the way their music moves me, and it inspires me to create music that is transportive and brings some romance and beauty to the world.

How did you start playing music?
I grew up playing classical piano, but it wasn’t really until after high school that I started really delving into songwriting. I had made a group of friends who were musicians who really inspired me, and having their support really kept me pushing on with it.

If you could share the stage with any artist, who would you choose?

Chris Isaak. We’d sing a heartbreak duet together and be wearing coordinated sequinned suits.

What do you have planned for the remainder of 2022?

‘Till The Day’ is my first release as Emily Grace Taylor, so I’m looking forward to really get going and playing as many shows as I can. I’ve also got a bunch of material that I’m pumped to be able to share, so getting into the studio and releasing more music is a priority for me.
