A QUICK CHAT WITH FANGZ ABOUT THEIR UPCOMING AUS TOUR

Organising a tour in this decade is hard enough, but to book 20 dates is a huge effort!
Who was the mastermind behind this, and how long was it a work in progress?

We’re fortunate enough to have an amazing booking agent, Will Hollonds, who has now had to rebook some of these shows 3 times thanks to old mate C-19. We set out to try and play some new places on this tour if time permitted. For example, it's been our singer Josh’s lifelong dream to play a show in Orange. So yeah, see you on the 5th of March at The Vic, Orange people!

How do you view the importance of regional touring?
Regional touring in my experience is where you meet the most appreciative fans that become lifelong fans. Unfortunately, due to budgeting and logistics, a lot of places get missed on tours by bigger bands, but these are the places people will drive 2 hours to come see you, they will hang out, drink beers, buy merch, and tell you their story! These are the fans you want! Give me a room with 50 people like that, over a room with 500 people that are just waiting till the DJ comes on after you any day of the week!

Touring is rather strenuous at times.
How do you keep active, healthy and mentally proficient for the duration of your tours?

Touring in Australia is tricky because of the size and distance between cities, so invariably for us, it's always leave 4am Friday morning, drive to Brisbane, check into the hotel around 3pm, go for a walk, get some food, play the show, hang out, sleep, drive to the next show, sleep, drive home then work our asses off for 4 days then do it all again. It's a tough balance, and we’re constantly tired, but fortunately Jameel (bassist) is a sick DJ at the best of times so the morale is always pretty high. Podcasts are also great on long drives; my personal fave currently is “Mid Flight Brawl”. Also, black coffee is a saviour.

4Your crowd interaction is second to none and you all have so much on-stage charisma. What’s the best way to build up your confidence and morale before a show?

A shot of Tequila/Fireball/Jägermeister and a beer or two as we’re walking on stage has worked well thus far, so I guess we will stick with that!

When the wheels come off, what are some of the best recovery / downtime activities?

Best recovery activity would be lifting heavy weights, followed soon after by a long hot sauna! If these aren’t available, beer is also a pretty good way to deal with the wheels coming off, or so I’ve heard.
