A QUICK CHAT WITH GHOST CARE

How would you describe the Ghost Care project to a new listener?

Hello, Tanaya here! Whenever people ask me what Ghosties sound like I usually say that we have a warm, fun and catchy sound.  As far as our live show is concerned, I’d say we have a really engaging and fun vibe on stage that definitely travels through the audience, making the space feel really beautiful and safe.

You’re just about to head out on the Spacey Jane tour for 9 stops across NSW & QLD! How are you feeling?

Gosh, it’s a mixture of excitement, anticipation and relief (to be on tour, rather than at work!). This is what we want to do; we want to be a working, touring band that could do this for a living. In reality, that’s not so easy, so when these opportunities present themselves you need to seize them with all you’ve got. We are so grateful to be going on tour with the Spacey crew.

Are there any stops on the tour you’ve never been to before?

Yeah! Most of them, ha! Personally, I am really excited for Rockhampton because I have a cousin who lives there who I’ve never met, so it’ll be a new town AND new family. Also Cairns, I’m very excited for some humid rainforest times. Newcastle will be cool to see because it’s always on tour posters but I can’t put the city’s face to a name.

What can fans expect at one of your live shows?

Our fans actually play such an integral role during our live shows. There’s an exchange of happiness and warmth between us; we’re so grateful that they are there with us enjoying the music and singing our lyrics. Luke (drummer) refuses to have a mic on stage, but Beau and I can be little hyperactive weirdo’s and really send each other into  bizarre spirals sometimes which can be really funny to watch happen, so in a way I guess our live shows are a fun place to be yourself and have a laugh whilst enjoying catchy melodies, harmonies and Luke’s groovy beats.

Do you have a favourite song to play live?

At the moment it’s definitely ‘Partying’. That’s the way it always goes, the most recently written or released song is the new favourite! Personally, I love the bass movements in this song and enjoy the feeling of playing them live. I also love the lyrics, how they’re so sad but so relatable and cathartic to sing; calling it quits once you realise what’s happening within a relationship is unhealthy.

What are you excited to do on tour? Is there any space for downtime/activities outside of the tour?

We’re super lucky because there are a few downtime days on this tour, lord knows we’ll need it because we’ll be on the road for two weeks. I imagine there will be nature walks, a little bit of window shopping, but maybe no ocean swimming - I have a fear of Irukandji Jellyfish so I’ll have to check out the seasons. Us three Ghosties can be like cheeky little children when we’re together, so I’m sure we’ll have fun no matter where we are.

What do your long road trips as a band usually look like - any favourite snacks/activities to pass the time?

Carpool Karaoke baby! We also like to deep dive back into the party tracks of the 2010’s. A little bit of La Roux (Bulletproof), a little bit of Phoenix (Lisztomania). Surely that will get old quickly? Maybe some eye spy, maybe a Harry Potter audiobook. The options are endless. As far as snacks go…I am a chicken nugget kind of girl, Luke is a hot chocolate kind of guy, Beau is a cheeky little Macca’s cheeseburger kind of guy. There’s something for everyone.

How will you be celebrating at the end of the tour?

By going back to work, WAH. Can we go on a never-ending tour, please? I’m sure on the last night of the tour in Sunshine Coast we’ll really let our hair down because all the hard work will be over and we can be proud of ourselves for making it to the end. We’re so excited and hope it will be the first of many East Coast tours.
