A QUICK CHAT WITH JUNIE

Is it strange going from Bootleg shows to JUNIE shows?

JUNIE is starting all over again in comparison to Bootleg. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy playing to little rooms where no one really knows you. You have to work for it, you have to win that crowd over.
Not that I don’t need to do that with Bootleg but usually there are a few fans at the gig that already know the songs and sing along. If no one knows the songs, you have to win them over with your performance.

How did this sound come about?

Whenever I was writing songs for Bootleg there were always songs that sat on the fringe of that sound. I always had the thought to do a solo thing but wasn’t sure to be honest. It was the night of Anderson Paak’s Metro show, I don’t know what happened but when I walked out I knew I had to do something with the songs. Anyway a year later, here I am with my first single ‘Exercise’

Do you have any shows coming up?

I do, on Valentines day!!!! Which is also the day my debut single comes out. It’s going to be at the Gladstone upstairs, and I got some of the Cracked Records guys that are going to be supporting too, if you haven’t heard these guys trust me by the end of 2020 you will!!
Same with the main supports The Million

Your single sounds very personal and Raw, can you go deeper in to the meaning of this song for you?

This song was definitely written during a time where I was overthinking life a bit, blaming lots of people for mistakes that weren’t their fault. I guess that’s growing up though and it’s really interesting releasing these songs now and seeing how much I have changed and grown since then.

How do you juggle being in heavy touring band with Bootleg and trying to do a solo act as well?

It’s hard, it keeps me very busy. Pretty much every other minute I can I work on JUNIE and every minute that I’m not I just feel guilty for not doing anything. But I also think downtime is very important, and knowing how to recharge your batteries. It keeps you sane!!!!
