A Quick Chat with JUNO (Kahlia)

Words by: JUNO (Kahlia)

Congratulations on the single release! What are your plans to celebrate it now that it’s out?

We’re hitting the road on tour with our best mates! Honestly, I couldn’t think of a better way to do it. While we’re in Melbourne we have a few days off, so I think some Bloody Mary’s on the rooftop at Naked for Satan are in order.

Tell us about how JUNO was created?

Sam and I used to be in another band together. We’ve been friends for a long while now. When that old band fell apart, we started demoing some songs together - Sam was producing the instrumentals while I was writing the lyrics and melodies. We started posting snippets of songs we had created together on Instagram and the response was so strong and encouraging that we decided to make the project a reality - JUNO was born.

How is the process of writing as a duo?

Sam and I lucked out because we both have strengths and weaknesses that compliment the other. I’m not much of a producer (I dabble), but Sam is insane at it. I’ve always loved singing, along with writing melodies and lyrics. When Sam comes to me with a beat/loop I can top-line and together we can create a full song. Every JUNO song is a product of our combined abilities.

You worked with Taka Perry on this track! How was the process of production and collaboration throughout creating ‘come thru’?

So, funny story. Over the past year we’ve been writing and producing loads of songs. We had put together a bit of a reference playlist. Upon further investigation we realised most of songs had been produced by Taka. We decided it probably makes sense to just contact him and ask him to work on these songs we were writing. Working with him has been bloody amazing. He’s an absolutely insaaaane producer and has definitely leveled up the tracks we’ve given him.

What can fans expect to see next from JUNO?

This year we’ll be releasing a new single every 6-8 weeks and playing a lot of stupidly exciting shows. 2023 is going to be a lot of fun and we’re so ready for it.
