A QUICK CHAT WITH KING IBIS

Congratulations on your latest release! How does it feel to finally have this one out?

Ever since getting that first mix back, we have been itching to release it so it’s so awesome to finally have it out. We feel this is our strongest release yet. It has been a lot of work to get it to this point but we’re so happy with how it turned out! Producer, David Parkin, played a crucial role in helping us piece together the missing elements.

For readers that don’t know you yet, how would you describe your music?

If Kings of Leon and Wet Leg had a baby and it was raised by Kylie Minogue.

How did the name of the band come about?

When we first started we were making demos of some of our first songs. We titled them ‘Nadene and The Bin Chickens’ as a joke.

We were lamenting on how the Ibis has coped a bad rap for being a bit of a pest so we decided to go with something a bit more majestic.

You’ve opened for some incredible acts! What’s been your favourite live performance to date?

It’s really hard to pick just one!

We all loved Nannup, playing at Both the Nunnup Hotel and the Tigerville stage was absolutely incredible. It was an amazing weekend with so many amazing bands and artist as well as one of the the kindest audiences.

Sam said she felt so nervous before we played but after we played a killer set, she was euphoric from all the adrenaline. It also was our biggest audience to date at the time, so it was really cool to have the opportunity and feeding off the crowds energy was epic.

Some of our favourite support slots so far have been Ghost Care, Spacey Jane and Jebadiah. Nadene also said she loved the single launch we did for ‘Patience’ because she felt like something finally clicked with her confidence to just lean into being her authentic self on stage.

What can fans expect from a King Ibis live show?

Probably a little bit of awkward banter and Nadene forgetting when she starts songs haha.

Cool party shirts.

Some laughs.

Some cries.

Stank face.

Some foot tapping goodness.

What are your plans for 2024?

We are really hoping to smash out some more releases and go touring over east for the first time. We would love to jump on some festival lineups and/or tour with another band too. Lots of planning to do at this stage but it will be a busy year for sure!
