A Quick Chat with Left Cassette

Congrats on the release of your debut single ‘Two Left Shoes’! I know this track has been in the works for quite a while. When did you realise you had finally perfected the track?

We thought it was fine before we even recorded it. How young and silly we are. We recorded it with Jono Frowd at Hunting Ground Studios. He’s a good mate of ours and an absolute weapon in every aspect of the term. He really opened our eyes up to the infinite possibilities the track has. We’re always playing around with our songs and they’re constantly evolving, ever so slightly, each time we play. So, for that reason, I’m not sure we’ll ever fully finish a track. We’ll always strive for that little bit more.

You guys are fresh on the scene. How do you all meet? Have you been playing together for years or only as of late?

We’ve known each other for years. Josh and Trent met in 2015 when Josh first arrived from England. Trent was sound engineering at this little acoustic show in a community church in Wynnum and Josh was playing there because he knew no one and nothing about the scene at that point. They hit it off and played in Breakfast at Nan’s together for years. Trent and Hunter have been jamming on and off for a while and Tom and Josh worked together for years at Suncorp and have been in a few projects together. The stars kinda just aligned at the end of 2023, everyone was free and keen to have a red hot go and we went from there. Now we’re inseparable and wanna take this as far as possible.

Do you have any musical influences that inspired the sound of ‘Two Left Shoes’?

Loads of influences. When Josh wrote the track, he was listening to lots of 50s/60s pop, and I think that comes through in the structure and the harmonies. But we all love the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Oasis, the early Kings of Leon records. They’re so raw and sound massive and we definitely wanted a bit of that. Add to that a bit of Two Door Cinema Club’s first album and you get a huge-sounding, catchy tune that’s perfect for a boogie

What are you doing as a band when you are not making music?

Just kicking back. Josh and Trent love their sports, so probably watching some soccer (football) or playing FIFA. That’ll definitely be a tour bus essential. But we just like kicking back together sinking a few brews and listening to music. As long as we’re around each other then we’re having a laugh one way or the other.

Any insider info on some new tunes?

Well, we’ve got about a gazillion demo’s and I’d say a solid 75% of them are single worthy in our opinion. We may or may not be (we definitely are) getting into the studio again in the coming month or so to make sure we’ve got at least another 2 for this year and we can’t bloody wait for you to hear them.
