A Quick Chat With Miss Lucy
Can you tell me a bit about your single ‘Still Got Hearts’?
A friend and I were hanging out at my place about who knows what and he got a text on his phone. Just so happens, it was his ex and I thought it was interesting that he hadn’t gotten rid of the hearts in their exes contact name. It’s kind of the first time that I had written a song from a fictional viewpoint because I am definitely not the type to keep hearts on my phone!
How did the name Miss Lucy come about?
Miss = my friend Mackenzie’s dog, Missy
Lucy = my dog, who sadly has passed this year
Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with? Why?
I would love to work with Lewis Stephenson of The Belligerents fame. I think he has such a far out yet grounded take on psych pop music that I really want to explore. Also he has such a unique and fun voice!
What are your three favourite albums of all time?
This still hasn't changed in the last few years (for good reasons):
Lonerism - Tame Impala
Frank Ocean - Blond
Supertramp - Breakfast In America
CD’s or vinyl?
Neither. Both are dated and inconvenient. Streaming just makes sense hahaha
I did catch the vinyl bug for a while but I got better.
If you could change something about the Australian music industry, what would it be?
Probably the lack of opportunities that are presented to small artists. This is especially apparent when we rely so heavily on one source to make or break us.
Do you have a weird obsession? What is it?
Knowing obscure Star Wars trivia. Eg. naming characters with no dialog and their backstories such as; Willrow Hood.
What has been your greatest career highlight so far?
When the ominous “Rage” soundbite came on when “Ocean” was played.
Definitely made my 7-year-old self giggle.
If you could have any three people over for dinner, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
Norm Macdonald because I want to tell him how much he helped me smile when I couldn’t and laugh when I know I shouldn’t.
Paul McCartney just so I can really make sense of the Yesterday scrambled eggs story. I can’t hear it, honestly.
Harrison Ford because I know he wouldn’t want me there.
What’s next for Miss Lucy?
I just went into a studio in the valley with some friends, so hopefully I will be working with some super talented people soon!
I want to keep writing to possibly write another EP or an album but also really want to give DJing Miss Lucy a go ! So keep an eye out for that.
