A Quick Chat with N4TE

HEY N4TE FIRST OFF, CAN YOU TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR SINGLE ‘Chitter Chatter’?

Chitter Chatter is a high-energy rap song and my second release of the year. The song is about the state of the Australian hip hop scene and how not everything people talk about in their music is necessarily the truth.

WHAT ARE YOUR INFLUENCES AND HOW DO THEY AFFECT YOUR SONGWRITING?

My influences range widely as I draw inspiration from heaps of different artists. With this song in particular I drew heavy influence from the new wave of Australian hip hop that’s been growing over the past couple years. That includes artists such as HP Boyz, Onefour and Chillinit

YOUR AN INCREDIBLE VOCALIST SO APART FROM THE PIPES WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE INSTRUMENT / EQUIPMENT PIECE?

Definitely guitar, I’ve been playing since I was about nine years old so that’s my passion as well as rapping and producing.

CD’S OR VINYL?

Gonna have to go old school with vinyl on this one.

IF YOU HAD TO LIVE OFF ONE COMBINATION SANDWICH AND DRINK COMBO WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Would have to be a Chicken schnitzel sandwich with Arizona Iced tea. I almost already live off that now ahaha.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY DURING THE LOCKDOWNS?

My favourite memory from that time was just how everything generally slowed down. It gave me a couple months to lock into the home studio and record some great music without any distractions.

IF YOU COULD ADD SOMETHING TO THE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY TO IMPROVE IT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I think more of a collaborative energy between artists would be great in the aus music industry. At the moment, especially in the Hip Hop scene, people seem to be hesitant to work together and have a ‘crabs in a bucket’ mentality. It would be great to see more collaboration and support as I believe there’s enough opportunity for us all to succeed.

WHICH HOGWARTS HOUSE WOULD YOU BE SORTED INTO?

I’d like to say Griffindor but in reality I think I’m more of a Hufflepuff ahaha.

I HAVE SEEN A BEER BOTTLE OPENED WITH THE INSIDE OF AN ELBOW… DO YOU HAVE ANY WEIRD TALENTS?

I can do a pretty spot on Bugs Bunny impression…not too useful but definitely weird ahah.

WHO WAS YOUR FIRST CELEBRITY MUSICIAN CRUSH?

Miley Cyrus for sure. Back in the day watching Hannah Montana had me feeling some type of way.

ON THE BACK OF SUCH A HARD TIME IN THE INDUSTRY, WHAT IS SOMETHING CHALLENGING AND SOMETHING GREAT ABOUT BEING AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST YOUR FANS MIGHT NOT THINK ABOUT?

A challenge in being an independent artist is that you have to manage a lot of different aspects of the creative process. For me that means recording myself, engineering my own tracks, designing my own cover art and organising music video shoots, which can be a lot to juggle. Something great about being an independent artist is the freedom you have to express yourself how you want to without any constraints, which is something I really value.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR N4TE?

A lot more singles and music videos this year. I’m really focusing on expanding my catalogue at the moment with some quality releases that touch on a bunch of different styles and genres.
