A Quick Chat with Nick Keogh

Congrats on your new single ‘Always Knew’! Can you tell us a bit about the song’s meaning?

Thank you so much! Always Knew is about knowing that a relationship is coming to an end and coming to terms with the impact that it’s going to have on you. For me, writing this song was a way for me to move past that heartbreak.

We’ve seen you collab a bit across previous releases - any future co-writes in the works?

Great question! I’ve been lucky enough to work with some awesome artists and even lucky enough to work with some people I looked up to in the industry when I was a kid. I can’t say too much at the moment but hopefully some of that will be coming out later this year.

Who would you consider your biggest influences (musical or non musical)?

As a kid I grew up on a healthy diet of Cold Chisel, Missy Higgins and Paul Kelly. Any time I revisit their music I feel like I’m listening to it for the first time again. The writing and musicianship is just so impressive.

When you’re not making music, what might we find you doing?

At the moment I’ve just been flat out working my day job at a bar (I’m actually writing this on my break now!) and fitting in writing, recording and touring around that! I’m currently on tour with Ceres playing guitar for Suzi and am having the absolute time of my life!

Which songs do you have on repeat right now?

Right now I’ve got Aleksiah’s new EP on rotation, not only is she an incredible writer but her voice is just next level. I also just saw The Last Dinner Party and Lizzy McAlpine and was blown away by both of their live shows. The Last Dinner party had this infectious energy and awesome stage presence, where as Lizzy let the songs speak for themselves and made the audience lean in and listen deeply. Also Mk.gee’s new album is incredible and has been on repeat!

What was the first concert you ever went to?

I was 10 years old when Jimmy Barnes came to Albury. I think my ears are still ringing from that show but I definitely caught the bug, ever since then all I’ve ever wanted to do is write and perform music.

What’s in store for the rest of 2024?

I’m playing a headline show on the 29th of July at Northcote Social Club as part of their Monday night Social Sanctuaries. I am so excited for this one! We’ve got Keanu Jai and Amalia supporting and it’s a free show! I’ve also got a bunch of new music I’m hoping to put out at the back end of this year. The best place to stay across it all is my socials!
