Congratulations on the release of the new single ‘Electric Woman’ – it’s a dedication to powerful women. What was the inspiration behind this song and what does it mean to you?

Thankyou! I wanted to create an anthem to celebrate and empower women, inspired by the concept of a super hero; the Electric Woman. I initially thought I was writing this song for other women, but I then realised I was also writing this song for myself. It was what I needed. I think words hold a lot of power so writing a song like this was a really special way to manifest that type of confidence and power through lyrics.

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into singing?

I’ve been surrounded by music my entire life with my dad being a musician / songwriter. Before I could even walk, I was in the studio with his music blasting and moving to the music. It’s just always been a part of who I am. Then at around 10 years old, I discovered Alicia Keys when I heard the song “If I Ain’t Got You” on Video Hits. My parents bought me her CD’s for Christmas and I learnt all of her songs. I would pause and play each word on my stereo so I could write down the lyrics to sing along. If I missed a word, I'd have to restart the song from the beginning.

What are your influences and how do they affect your songwriting process?

There are so many amazing artists that have influenced my love for music like Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Kate Bush, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Madonna - just to name a few. I like to think that all the music I have ever loved gets mixed together in a big pot and then poured out into my own music.

You have a great eye for fashion and thrift shopping – can you give us some fashion tips?

My biggest tip would be to not worry about what’s “in fashion” or what’s popular. For years I’ve loved wearing big shoulder pads, regardless of whether they are “in” or not, but because it’s a style that I truly love. I think everyone should embrace their individuality and wear clothes because they love them, rather than following current trends. This is why thrift shops are so amazing, because you can find pieces from all different eras and create a one-of-a-kind outfit!

How does fashion and art inspire your music and style? Who are your fashion muses and why?

I’m constantly inspired by the 80’s in fashion and in music. The same way that I love big shoulder pads and big hair - I love a big chorus and big vocals!
I love looking back at Lady Gaga’s outfits from her The Fame era. She once mentioned that her iconic hair bow was made from hair extensions bought at a dollar store, which reminded me that you don’t have to have a lot of money to be stylish. I also find a lot of inspiration from fashion designers like Moschino, Mugler, Jean Paul Gautier and Yves Saint Laurent.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would they be and why?

I think it would have to be Alicia keys, she has been such a monumental part of who I am as an artist since the beginning so it would be such a full circle moment. I’m already manifesting this btw!

You toured with Australian hip-hop group Hilltop Hoods – what was that like?

Some of my best memories are from being on tour with them. Getting to travel the world and perform with them feels like a dream. The shows are so much fun, and the whole crew feels like one big family. I love them so much!

When not creating music what do you like to do to inspire yourself?

I love working with my mum on new fashion projects, whether it’s designing the next headpiece or creating a custom outfit for a photoshoot or music video. I love being prepared, and these things take time, so it’s always good to be couture ready!

What artists are you listening to at the moment?
Chappell Roan - like the rest of the world! I think she is an incredible artist. Also Raye, I’ve loved

her music for a long time! I’m so happy she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves.

What can fans expect next ?

I’m excited for the music that’s coming next, they are some of my favourite songs I’ve ever written. I can only image the shoulder pads will get bigger alongside it - if that’s even possible!
