A QUICK CHAT WITH PAULINA

‘Nobody’ is a beautiful track. Can you tell us what it’s about?

Aw thank you so much!! It’s an exploration of true happiness that can be found within everyone, and also the envy and frustration others can have of those who find that happiness for themselves. Specifically, it’s about someone who has found that joy for themselves, yet has to go on and see those who haven’t and continue to suffer and fake their ‘happiness.’ I find kindness comes as a result of being happy, and this song focuses on the fact that even though this individual may not like a person, they still want to see them living a joyful life, not one full of self-inflicted misery.

How did you get into writing and performing music?

From an early age, I was always surrounded by music. I played guitar for quite a few years, I always used to sing with my dad when he played piano, and constantly listened to great music with my mum (our car rides hit different haha!) I always loved music and really wanted to write my own songs but never had the courage to. Then in 2019 my mum signed me up for a song writing workshop, which was actually the same day that I played my first ever gig at Ipswich Unearthed. That day seriously changed my life for the better, I found what I loved – writing and performing music.

I saw that you’ve been nominated for a Queensland Music Award. Does that make you feel validated in all the work you’ve put into your music so far? What would it mean to win an award like this?

Yeah, it’s so crazy! From super early on, one of my biggest goals has been to win a QMA, and the fact that I’m a finalist is seriously so surreal to me!! So definitely, it’s one of those milestones that really makes the work and effort I’ve put into my career so, so worth it. There are so many artists that have been nominated for and won these awards in the past that I admire, and to be a part of that list of finalists and alongside these people that I look up to so much, is honestly so insane!

Can we expect more music from you in 2022?

100%!!! I’ve felt so inspired over the last few months and have been writing and producing new music non-stop. I’m currently finishing up on a new single that I plan to release very, very soon, along with a lot of other tunes you can expect later this year!

Can we expect any live shows from you in the near future?

Yes! I just recently had my debut show with my band and loved absolutely every second of it. So, I’m keen to play more shows this year and hope to headline another show with a few other talented artists, in these next few months.
