A Quick Chat With Project BEXX

Can you tell us about the new track and what you want people to take away from it?

The track is for anyone and everyone who is angry about something in the world and wants to sing and yell about it. Lots of passion, lots of catharsis and just in general a real sense of taking back power over your own life.

Who are some of your influences and why?

I think for this particular track, I took a lot of influence from the queen Lilly Allen - just really sharp words and meaning hidden behind soft mesmerising vocals. And just all over the place - pop, hip hop, electronic, drum and bass. Got that drum beat inspo from the one and only "oh mickey you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind" big cheerleader vibes~

What's the creative process for you, from writing through to recording?

It changes for every song - for this one the whole thing started from that drum beat, and the siri vocals. I spent heaps of time on perfecting those to how I wanted, and then the rest of the track - synths, vocals etc came super fast. Recorded everything at home in my living room as a sort of testament that anyone can record or make a song, they don't need a big studio, lots of money, professionals helping them etc. Just find something you wanna create and go crazy.

What do you think makes a great song?

OOH huge question - I think for me personally it's the choice of chords/key  and 'vibe'. I'm obsessed spooky minor progressions, so any track of any genre that uses those sort of keys and sounds I'm into. We love a haunted house dance track.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

hmmmmm - maybe Doja Cat, Billie Eilish or Lil Nas x if were gonna go big haha. I really like their sounds and attitude towards music and just think it would be a hella party in the studio.

When not working on music, what other creative outlet/s do you have?

I am really passionate about social work and working with the community, so anything to do with that brings me enormous happiness and sparks my creativity. Community events, hearing people's stories, working together to build something, that's my viibbbbeeeee.

Who are some local bands we should check out?

Neapolaxi -- the hella cute GRIMES of Perth

Woodcut -- kinda like Matt Corby but BETTER

Butter -- if you like King Krule vibes - these boys are TALENT

Winter or summer and why?

Winter - I'm super into the big puffy jackets and 100 layers

What else do you have planned for the year?

Got some HUGE shows coming up in the summer, hopefully going to do a National tour, and just keep on partying with the band <3
