A Quick Chat with Radical Son

Can you tell us a bit about your inspiration for your single ‘Until You Call Me Name’?
This song has one of my favourite verses.
Knowing myself - knowing my journey and my challenges , I'd like to share my experiences in the hope that it may help others, I know that there are many that would lend a hand but for change to happen we must really want it ourselves. most importantly we must  put in the work

What are your influences and how do they affect your songwriting?
My writing influences come from my life and experiences mainly. I want my music to hit you in a meaningful way. I’m writing with integrity and after 20 yrs in the game my fire is still there. I continue to stand and deliver.

What’s the creative process like for you?
Most of the time when I’m out and about, driving in my car or on public transport, ideas start to flow. I’ll record voice memos on my phone, workshop them into lyrics and take them into the studio.  There I’ll collaborate with a creative partner (for Bilambiyal that was Marcus Longfoot from Full Circle Audio) to build the songs.

If you could change something about the Australian music industry what would it be?
There are too many middle people taking a slice of the pie. The singers, songwriters, musicians need to be paid more. I think we deserve it, I know I put a lot into what I'm doing.

What do you think life would be like for you if you didn’t have music as an outlet?
I’d be in prison or dead. I really do believe that music has saved my life and set me on a better path.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?  Why?
Buddy Knox is a legend in my eyes. I think he is a top notch musician who plays great music and writes awesome songs.

What’s your advice to young people who want to make a career for themselves in the industry?
Work hard at it. Take up the opportunities that are presented to you and keep writing.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve worked with/met?
Dave Bridie from Wantok. I like how he has done lots for first nations people from all over the world.

Any plans for a tour on the cards?
Yes. I’m looking to do Regional Australia soon, starting with NSW.
