A QUICK CHAT WITH SIR ARCHER

Congratulations on your latest single, ‘Heed The Call’! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind it?

Collectively, we find ourselves inspired by a solid bass line in a lot of music we love. This allows us all to play freely and create a pocket / groove we can all lock in on. This song started with the chorus, bass riff and vocal hook. We worked backwards from there, piecing it all together as we went. With the music somewhat complete, it was a matter of finding the final inspiration for the lyric journey - we knew we wanted it to stand for something. The chorus has a certain weight about it, which meant that the rest of the song had to match. For this one, Inspiration struck on a cruise ship casino at 3am after an unloading from a stranger regarding his father’s passing and his struggles coming to terms with it..Heed The Call’ is really about the journey through life, love, loss and trying to be the best version of yourself while you still have the opportunity to do so.

What’s the creative process like for you as a band?

A process! Now that would be helpful! Ha! It truly is ever-changing. Rick (drums) and James (guitar) run their own studio space. It's awesome having our own hub available where we can hit record in a room together and just let our juices flow! Some of our songs are made when our energy tanks are full and we decide to get us all together in a room to “see what comes out”. Other times it’s a smaller group that comes up with the initial idea that then gets handballed around. It basically comes down to who is there when the microphones go up and the red record button is pressed. We are constantly trying to find what works the best for us. ‘Heed The Call’ in particular was very different in its original form. Started as a voice memo on Luke’s (lead singer) phone and gradually transformed through different studio sessions into what it is today. The original recording is very different from the finished product you hear today and the process the band went through as a collective was definitely a huge step forward.

Who are your music influences and how do you feel they have influenced your songwriting?

Being a 6 piece band, we have quite a vast list of musical inspirations. We all love the old school giants like The Eagles (Their songwriting is deep. It has a certain reflective/storytelling nature to it, which we have always been drawn to). The band plays ‘parts’. Beautifully crafted guitar lines, perfectly fitting drum fills and tasty vocal harmonies. All those little things that make you want to listen to a song over and over again. Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, through to Toto; you can hear in a lot of our guitar tones, percussion and drums this is where we pull a huge amount of inspiration from. Kings Of Leon, John Mayer and Coldplay, vocally and lyrically, inspire all of us. Whether it be for imagery or lyrical intention, they're big for us! A lot of these artists are quite poetic lyrically and have a level of maturity in their playing that we are striving for everytime we record a new track.

What’s your most notable live experience so far?

We just released a live show on YouTube, in which we recorded in front of a live audience at Studios 301, so that has to get a special mention - to be in a position where we were able to put on something like that was certainly a notable checkpoint. Paddington RSL would have to be the most heart-warming show we've done. We're so thankful to have such awesome fans show up and sing along with us! After our first tour with the band it was an amazing feeling to come back to Sydney and feel the love and energy in the room that night.

What would you like listeners to take-away from listening to your music?

That we care about our instruments, our music, our fans and each other. Our music is real. It is nurtured and every little part is considered. We want to be a soundtrack to people’s lives. Having our tunes playing in happy moments of your life, like a boat party (personal goal of mine is to be on peoples “boat party” playlist) and when things aren’t going so good. We want to be there for you like great friends are. We want our music to be there for you like music has been for us. There's something for everyone. (Even mum and dad). If you're having a bad day, we've got you covered, if you want to sing the house down or dance your shoes off, we're right there with you. I think the great thing about our music is it comes from us. It's real, heartfelt, it's us. We are trying to share real life experiences and make people feel things through our music. Some of our music will be thought provoking, others a diary entry, some a warm hug and some just to make people feel good. We want our music to be as real as possible.

What can fans expect from Sir Archer this year?

2024 is going to be the biggest year so far for the band. Time to get your dancing shoes... The boys are going on our biggest tour yet, heading interstate for the very first time! We've got an East Coast run set to kick off in early February through to March. Performing shows at Brisbane, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Canberra, Wollongong, Melbourne and finishing off with a big night at Oxford Art Factory in Sydney! We're so excited to get on the road and see everyone... might even hear a few cheeky new songs. We are looking to hit some festival stages and keep riding the momentum that the fans have helped us build. We are also currently building a new room at the studio in order to record more music, or maybe… an album?
