A Quick Chat with Sophian

Congratulations on the single! What are your plans to celebrate now that it is finally out?

We are so excited for the song to be out! We have put so much time, love, and effort into this song! To celebrate the release, we will be having a launch show on the 5th of May at The Bird, WA with some amazing support acts. Following that, we will be going on a local WA tour. Follow us on our socials to keep track of all of them!

2How was the process of writing ‘Georgia’?

We worked with our favorite producer to create this song. His name is Dave Parkin (Blackbird Sound studio, Spacey Jane). Working with him, you can always expect to go on a journey. He is such an amazing musician himself and just has an excellent ear and vision for your music. We probably spent a good 6 months playing the song live and changing bits and bobs of it as we went along before we took it into the studio and had Parko do his magic on it. Overall, it was also one of the best experiences we have had writing and producing a song. We can’t wait for many more like this!

3How did you all meet and what connected you to start the band in the first place?

Our front man Soph and Tyler were already playing music together in another local WA band so the both of them were already good friends from there. Soph had always wanted to pursue his own musical project and that's when he reached out to Finn (Founding member and lead guitarist) who together started writing some music together. Not long after Soph got Tyler (drummer) onboard who was also very keen on the music we were making. From there Tyler introduced Julia, our bassist to us. We all kinda just clicked and really enjoyed making music together. Fast forward a year later, Michael our new lead guitarist came on board with us and is also an official Member of ‘Sophian’.

4What’s an event in your life that has had the greatest impact on you as an artist?

Soph - This may sound a little cliche but one of the most pivotal moments for me which had the biggest impact on my music career was seeing Coldplay live in Melbourne in 2017. They are my favorite band and the reason I started to play music. But having grown up in the Maldives most of life it was very hard to see big name artists as they would never come to perform in the Maldives. So, after I moved to Australia in 2014 I wanted to find my way into the music scene and at first, I really struggled and doubted myself a lot. But it was in 2017 when I say Coldplay live, at that very moment I knew what my life’s calling was and since then I had been working hard on my music. In early 2022 I got my band together and in this short year that we have been a band, we have already managed to kick some sick goals!

5What can fans expect to see next from Sophian?
