A Quick Chat With Stefanie Passione

Hailing from Perth, Stefanie Passione has been turning heads in the Australian music scene since her debut in 2018, delivering irresistible tracks that blend sensuality with dance-worthy beats. Her newest single ‘Falling for you’ is a smooth, emotional journey about letting your guard down and giving in to love—wrapped in groovy basslines and a catchy hook. Dive in as Stefanie opens up about her creative process, the story behind ‘Falling for you’, and more.

Can you tell us what this track means to you and what you want people to take away from it?
'Falling for you' is about letting your guard down and realising that you've fallen for someone and are past the point of being able to deny it. For this song, I wanted to capture the nervous butterfly feeling that you get early on in relationships when you’re around the person that you’re crushing on. I hope that listeners can not only relate to this song but can dance along to it too!

Who are some of your influences, and why?
Growing up Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse were some of my biggest influences. I was in awe of Whitney’s powerful voice and Amy’s raw vocals and style. As a songwriter, I’m inspired by pop icons such as Tate McRae and Camila Cabello. I love a good pop ballad with a strong beat, and these girls absolutely nail it!

What's the creative process for you, from writing through to recording?
Each song is different, but I usually come up with the melody first. I typically record myself on voice memos while singing around the house. Once I’m fully satisfied with the melody, I will develop the lyrics and overall mood for the song. I then book in a session with a producer to get the beat made. My favourite part of the process is recording the vocals in the studio, I love layering different harmonies and adlibs together to make each part of the song sound different.

What do you think makes a great song?
A catchy melody is everything. I believe a great song needs to be either relatable or perfect to dance along to.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Sabrina Carpenter! I love how she makes each performance a different experience for her fans, especially with her ‘Nonsense’ outros.

When not working on music, what other creative outlet/s do you have?
I love dancing. I honestly think there’s nothing better for the soul than dancing along to great music.

Who are some local bands we should check out?
The Australian music scene is filled with so many amazing artists and musicians. Some to keep an eye out for are Jordane, Cloud Dstrct and Arlo Boe.

Winter or summer and why?
As much as I love winter fashion, I’m going to have to say summer. Being able to enjoy an ice-cream outside on a warm sunny day is a wonderful experience.

What else do you have planned for 2024?
Writing, recording and releasing new music! I’d like to release an EP next year, so writing new music for that is definitely on my agenda.
