A Quick Chat with Teina

Congrats on the release of ‘Sober’! Can you tell us a bit about the song?

I wrote this song about 2 years ago when I was in a bit of a situationship with someone and it’s about calling when you’re under the influence of alcohol and how you might say stuff that usually wouldn’t when you’re sober, being too truthful or saying stuff you wish you could take back.

When you’re not making music, what might we find you doing?

Other than working away, I’ve been heavily into fighting since I was 16, training Muay Thai for 4 years and boxing for 1 so that’s always a big part of my life. Other than training I’m always riding motorbikes as I’m an adrenaline junky and love to go fast. On an odd occasion I’ll be at the skatepark skating but that’s not as often as the other hobbies.

What songs have you currently got on rotation?

At the moment I’ve got a couple of different songs on repeat. I've been listening to Meekz’ new album ‘TRU’, ‘Acoustic Teenage Fantasies’ by Jorja Smith, ‘Alive’ by Bakar and of course ‘Sober’ by yours truly.

Who are your biggest influences (musical or non musical)?

I wouldn’t say I’m too influenced by anyone nowadays I just wanna be the best version of myself I can be and that’s all that matters, I use to be obsessed with Sticky Fingers, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Daniel Caesar, John Mayer and Rex Orange County but mostly Sticky Fingers they were my reason to start music and the reason I was so into it.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The first gig I ever went to was a Sticky Fingers concert at HBF stadium a couple of years ago I’m unsure of the year but man it was a good one, definitely an eye opener and another reason to want to be a musician.

What’s in store for the rest of 2024?

Work work work, I want to blow up and I need to blow up, I have nothing other than music so it’s this or die and I’m not dying anytime soon lol.
