A Quick Chat with Teina
What are three things audiences should know about Teina?
I love god, my family and my friends more than anything.
I dream big and work hard.
I'm obsessed with motorbikes and cars.
What got you started as a musician? Any inspirations, either in your own life or creative heroes?
Some of my earliest memories of life let alone music are my dad playing Tears in Heaven. I’ve always had a natural love for music, I picked up a guitar all throughout my life since I could remember, I then started properly learning at 8/9 years old. Dad was the biggest influence at the start and then I just took it and ran with it, I could never get enough. Watching Sticky Fingers was definitely the biggest impact on my career as the years went on. I would’ve been 10 years old watching their song Cyclone on YouTube thinking, man I wanna be able to play like that and sing like that. That’s now what I do, so I got those lyrics tattooed on my ribs.
On F.M.Y, you take your craft in a new direction, allowing more of a sense of vulnerability and emotion with the listener. How did you find this process, for a song that is so personal to you?
It was definitely a different approach for this song. I’m in love with this song so I was really excited to get it out there. I’ve still got to get the story of it out there. It was definitely an emotional song to make. I hope my angels hear it every time it’s played.
Looking at F.M.Y alongside your past releases, how do you think your style has developed over time in your career so far?
I feel like I’ve really found my sound, style and my online presence in the past 3 songs. I’ve come a long way with my sound and it’s right where it should be at the moment. Still a long way to go though but I’m excited for the journey always.
What is something on your bucket-list?
I’d love to play at a big festival with a band and have the crowd sing my song back to me.
What are some of your ultimate goals as an artist? Any music dreams that you keep in the front of your mind when things get tough?
The ultimate goal for me is to live as a musician, travel the world playing my music and get paid for it. It doesn’t get better in my eyes. Other than that I’d just love to play big shows with a band and play a triple j Like A Version. Things that keep me going is just not being a quitter and believing in myself. God has given me a gift and I’d be stupid to ever walk away from it without giving it my all and really seeing where I can take it.
Top three music venues in Perth?
I’m a big fan of the Indie Bar, the Rosemount and I love a good RAC Arena show.
What can fans of Teina expect from the project in the coming months, and from the coming years?
Just a lot more stuff, high quality music and lots of other things along the way. A lot of getting to know me also. MERCH is on the way soon and probably the biggest news would be shows. I’m touring Australia sometime soon so shows in every big city.
