A Quick Chat with The Moving Stills
Running Out is out now! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the track and the story it tells?
Running Out captures the feeling of emotional overload, the push and pull of wanting to share your struggles while fearing you might be asking too much of someone else. We wanted to make something fun and upbeat, but still carry the emotion of the story it tells.
The song balances upbeat, danceable energy with emotional storytelling, what was the creative process like in bringing this track to life?
We worked with our friend Henry Nowhere in LA on this song. It was a very organic and quick process. Henry has an amazing talent for creating special moments, and we loved leaning into a slightly new style and feel with a few of the elements. It has a chill laid back vibe, but still has an upbeat energy that we feel will come out nicely live. We have been rehearsing it over the last week, and are getting excited to play it live in the next few months.
How does Running Out fit into the bigger picture for The Moving Stills? Does it give us a taste of what’s to come in your next project?
We’re stoked to say we've got a lot more where it came from. Feeling really excited by the music we've been working on. We are currently putting together a collection of songs.
Your last single, Telephone, became triple j’s most-played track, did that success influence how you approached Running Out?
We were really stoked. We are super grateful for their support for our music. Telephone and Running Out both show two different styles that we’ve been jamming. We want to keep things fresh and exciting.
You’ve got some huge shows lined up, including a tour with Spacey Jane, how are you feeling about hitting the road, and can fans expect to hear Running Out live?
We are super excited to tour with Spacey. We’ve taken a short break from shows to write and record the last couple of months, but are amped to get on the road and play some of this new music. We’re feeling very excited for the year ahead. Running Out will make an appearance on the setlist for sure.
What’s next for The Moving Stills in 2025 and beyond? Any new music, collaborations, or surprises in store?
Lots of new music and live shows. We have also been working on something visual that we are excited by. We’ll have more on that soon. Hoping to do some fun launch/listening parties too. Super pumped for the Spacey Jane tour and more new music.
