A Quick Chat With The Steele Syndicate
Brisbane’s funk-rock powerhouse The Steele Syndicate is back with a groove-packed anthem, Take It Eazy. Known for their high-energy blend of funk, rock and soul, the band has made waves across Australia’s festival scene, including Bluesfest Byron Bay, Woodford Folk Festival and Caloundra Music Festival. With Take It Eazy, they channel the feel-good vibes of classic disco—bright horns, smooth strings and infectious rhythms—creating a nostalgic yet fresh dancefloor hit. The track’s message is simple: slow down, let go and enjoy the moment.
Fans can catch the band live at their single launch at Spin and Groove Records on March 29 or at Bluesfest 2025. We caught up with The Steele Syndicate to chat about the track, their influences and what’s next.
Can you tell us what this track means to you and what you want people to take away from it?
I hope this track brightens people's day and helps them to take it easy in the most disco way possible.
Who are some of your influences, and why?
The Cat Empire (horns!) Gang of Youths (vibes!) Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird (what a name! But also great disco elements).
What's the creative process for you, from writing through to recording?
I start with a basic idea and bring it to the band. We then workshop, jam and share ideas to create something special. This one really drew on a range of brainstormed musical bits to create something I think is really special. Every piece of the song is a story of trying this or that. I feel really lucky to make music with such a great group of people, and I think this song really shows off what our band can do as a team.
What do you think makes a great song?
I am definitely biased, but horns! I reckon they add so much depth, sparkle and oooomph.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Matt Corby. He is one of my favourite artists, and I would love to one day work with him at his studio and produce a track together. His Rainbow Valley production work has been really, really cool.
When not working on music, what other creative outlets do you have?
Recently, cooking. I am trying to nail cooking ramen, one painstakingly slow pot of stock at a time... If you wanna try some, check in with me in about five days (it takes so loooooong).
Who are some local bands we should check out?
Jam and Scones (@jamandsconesband) are doing some awesome stuff and just released a new song on March 14. Also, TYDE (@tyde_band) is doing great stuff—epic horn band.
Winter or summer and why?
Summer: swims!!
What do you have planned for 2025?

Single launch at Spin and Groove Records, Newstead on March 29
Bluesfest 2025! (We're playing Friday, April 18)
