A QUICK CHAT WITH TURPENTINE BABYCINO

Is the story behind ‘Calamity’ as calamitous as the title and lyricism suggests?

GEORGIE: Overall I don’t have the best memories at college, which is best remembered in my mind as a calamity. Studying made my time better and I could escape into the content from my reality.

Being regional royalty, how does it differ to be loved by a hometown community than to be admired by metropolitan listeners?

GABE: Newcastle is the music capital of Australia. It is absolutely pumping at the moment and there are new bands left right and centre. Hometown shows in Newcastle are always the best shows.

Do you prefer chaos or stillness when it comes to the band life?

GABE: CHAOS!

What’s your favourite lyric you’ve ever written, be it for your band, yourself, or unreleased?

GEORGIE: “I wouldn’t be feminist if you weren’t such a fucking asshole” – from the song Wage Gap inspired by ‘Girl in a Band’ by Kim Gordon.

What do you hope 2023 will deliver for Turpentine Babycino?

GABE: Play heaps of shows, release music and hopefully grow our audience and fans :)
