A QUICK CHAT WITH VILIFY

‘Odyssey’ hits hard and goes hard – what’s the main message it conveys?

Odyssey is about grief. It covers the journey through the grief process that happens when losing a loved one and touches on the feelings of anger at religion and it’s overplayed part in the grief process. How is being told to believe someone is in an imaginary better place in any way helpful. How is being told to believe in an imaginary figure who apparently needed a family member more meant to make anyone feel less devastated. That imaginary figure obviously hates us all.

What do you find in music that gives you the strongest sense of belonging?

Innoorannanah - dah, idnoorannanah dahhh. Korn quoted it perfectly.

Outside of music, what do you all do to help keep the creative juices flowing and fresh?

Reading seems to help lyrical content, getting out and about and social, general life experience stuff is also super inspiring. Variety and breaking the cycle of what we normally do is also a great experience for getting inspiration.

There have been some vast difficulties being an Australian band these last two years, what obstacles have helped you grow and develop together?

More time spent at home meant we had more spare time to write and hone in on our instruments. Being locked away and depressed helped us to develop a much tighter friendship as a band.

Is there anything on the cards for the final months of 2022 for Vilify?

We will be finishing off with more shows across the East Coast, and in between that we will be spending a heap of time with our favourite human Chris Blancato. Together we’re going to create something we are all very proud of.
