A QUICK CHAT WITH ZARA HAINES

Your new single "6 Figure Trigger" has a unique blend of pop, alternative and Singer-songwriter sound with captivating lyrics. Can you tell us about the meaning behind your new track?

Writing this song I found myself wondering why I wrote it and what it was really about. Each line, verse or chorus just fell out and all told its own little story. I then eventually realised it's a song about not settling. Relationships can be thrown at you, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way and it's important to not let yourself be with someone just because they tick all the right boxes!

What piece of advice would you give someone in a relationship like you describe in “6 Figure Trigger”?

Don’t let yourself settle with what is easy and safe that in its own way is dangerous and how life becomes boring. Make sure you’re seeking out new and interesting people. Ones who disagree with you, ones who will try and become better with you. Not just the ones who know the right thing to say!

Your Lyrics are something we see get great attention across all media. What do they mean for you?

I write with lyrics first! They are very important and personal to me. When you hear my music, it's like you're reading my diary, it's my way of explaining my life and is a snapshot of the inner workings of my mind. For any song I think it is important to tell a story, or express a feeling whether that be through the sounds you choose or the words you write, and I favor the latter.

Your sound has been described as a “Breath of fresh air” to the pop genre. With this being said, what's your creative process like?

I know what music I love and how I want it to feel. Whether that be a song to cry to after a break up or scream in the car for revenge, my process starts with that. Words are my thing so I take that energy and try to describe how I feel in those moments.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

At the moment I bounce between genres, loving rock artists like f=Foo Fighters and The Fray, and a more modern pop influence of Gracie Abrams and The Kid Laroi.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who?

At the moment, if I could work with any artist it would be The Chainsmokers! I love how they blend pop and electronic dance music, it is always a reference in my writing!

What's your star sign?

Gemini! Which I'm sure explains a lot!

At the moment the industry is flooded with great artists, many of which are in the pop genre. What makes you different and who would you compare your music to?

I think my music sounds different to a lot of pop music at the moment. I am adamant about finding new and interesting sounds to create difference and make people stop to listen! And one person who does this incredibly well is Halsey, and is the person I would compare my music to!
