COIN BANKS DROPS NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘FORGIVE US’ TAKEN FROM FORTHCOMING OUTSIDE LOOKING IN EP OUTSIDE LOOKING IN EP RELEASED JUNE 30 VIA LOW KEY SOURCE

Acclaimed Perth MC Coin Banks has dropped the heavenly new single and video ‘Forgive Us’ feat. The WAAPA Gospel Choir, the lead track taken from his forthcoming Outside Looking In EP, out June 30 via Low Key Source. Premiered by The AU Review this morning, ‘Forgive Us’ follows the WAM award-winning rapper’s recent return from hiatus, and comes after the huge success of 2014’s dual EPs Heads and Tails.

Coin Banks’ early influences of jazz and soul music shine through on ‘Forgive Us’, combining urban gospel music with witty, playful hip-hop in his smooth and effortless rapping style. The track lights up with blissful harmonies and bright, brass riffs, and is his most collaborative work to date, having joined forces with World DMC champion Atom on production, French guitarist Benji Bouton, Rada Studio’s Dan Carrol on bass and a number of WAAPA graduates including Chris Foster on composition and keys, Brendan Scott Grey leading the brass section and The WAAPA Gospel Choir.

The minimalist video plays out on a restaurant date where a woman becomes increasingly frustrated by her intolerable partner. Joyful wait staff and two cooks dance around them, before she speaks her mind and departs with a kiss. Discussing the concept behind the track, Coin Banks explains, “I think something that holds us back as a society is the inability to apologise and forgive, it is something so simple but something we all struggle with. Pride and fear hold us back from apologising, and at the same time holds us back from forgiving the people that have wronged us. The song takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to this fairly serious issue.”

Perth rapper Coin Banks has quickly established his position as one of Australia’s most exciting voices in hip-hop, since the release of his singles ‘Think of You’ and ‘Hatches’ in 2014, fusing classic and contemporary styling in his inventive storytelling. His unparalleled run has charted local and international tours including supporting the likes of Cypress Hill, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Action Bronson and Illy, saw him round out 2015 as the Most Played Artist on triple j Unearthed and nominated as their Artist of the Year, plus a string of accolades including WAM Urban Artist of the Year in 2015 and WAM Song of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
