FORTUNES. UNVEIL NEW SINGLE & LIVE VIDEO

Arriving yesterday on Inertia's mixtape for marriage equality (Thirty Days of Yes) and today on Future Classic is the stunning new single from New-Zealand-via-Melbourne duo Fortunes. Offering a mountain of melodic textures, “Daddies” heads straight to the soul, as vocalist Conor McCabe lays down his raw and earnest lyrics of love, acceptance and “bolted, holy matrimony”.

Offering flawless production in R&B-fused electronica courtesy of Barnaby Matthews alongside McCabe’s beautiful vocal delivery, “Daddies” shines light on social acceptance and marriage equality, as McCabe sings, “I am devoted to you, let’s get married, we can be daddies, I am devoted to you”. Which begs the question, if two people are devoted to one another, why can’t they get married? Given the nature of the song and the current Vote Yes campaign that is flooding our nation, the New Zealand natives felt the time was right for the world to hear their song.

McCabe explains: “We've been writing this cute song about getting married for the last couple years and was saving it for the album, but then this whole thing came up, and being from New Zealand we can't even vote here. So this is our vote."

“Daddies” follows on from Fortunes.’ recent Undress EP, which was released earlier this year, featuring critically acclaimed singles “501” and “Focus”Undress was the duo’s most organic and sonically-diverse release to date, with nods from local outlets including i-Dinthemix and Acclaim, and international tastemakers Pigeons and Planes and The Fader. The EP also took them on a tour of New Zealand and Australia, bringing their immersive live performance to all major cities and selling out in their hometown.

After meeting in high school in New Zealand, the pair reconnected at a Melbourne house party and went on to release their 2015 Hoodie EP, followed by 2016’s Jacket EP. The band were picked up by Future Classic and embarked on their debut headline Australian tour. Fortunes. have since supported the likes of AlunageorgeShlohmo and Lapsley, and played at major festivals including Laneway FestivalSplendour In the GrassBigsoundParadise Music Festival and more.

Fortunes. continue to grow their unique, soulful and instant sound with each release, this time they’re growing their voice too. “Daddies” is a flattering reflection on Australia's current reality and will consume you from first listen.
