Lakyn is excited to share his brand new single “West” with the world.

Receiving its first play this week on triple j’s Home & Hosed, ‘West’ is about Lakyn’s own ambition and self-worth – it’s about not getting too comfortable in any one place, and always pushing yourself to work harder, to do better. Spaghetti Western guitars rattle around the song like they’re sound-tracking a standoff between two sides of Lakyn himself. Currently on tour with Vera Blue, Lakyn also announces his own run of headline shows along the East Coast in October.

A native New Zealander, Lakyn first started making music when a broken ankle kept him off his skate board. The following years were filled with a Popular Reality TV Show, an acoustic EP, a crash course in production and some pretty intense self-reflection.

‘View Looks So Good’, Lakyn’s first release this year, has clocked up over 650,000 Spotify plays and was played by triple j and community radio. The remix was created by Kuren, the winner of triple j’s Unearthed NIMA competition who also produced the original track.

Lakyn spends a lot of his time in an imaginary world; one where life doesn’t get in the way of reflections and shadows that most people would walk right past.  When he writes music, he sees little pictures and films in his head, which is then imbued with his own emotions, memories and views. While listening to Lakyn’s music, you can see a bit of Lakyn's world- filled with childlike curiosity and ingenuity.
