Today marks the release of Lime Cordiale’s debut album PERMANENT VACATION, out via Chugg Music/MGM. Three years in the making, brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach have curated a selection of tracks that transverse styles including rock, pop and soul, to draw the listener in and reflect influences from some of Lime Cordiale’s favourite artists to create a colourful record.

To continue the celebration, the band is preparing to pack the tour bus with musicians and embark on a sixteen-date national tour throughout OctoberNovember and December. Videographer Jack Shepherd has been enlisted to capture all things on the road, and expose the band for better, or worse. Creating a series of short documentary pieces, which are sure to feature some colourful characters, will give an insight into the brothers’ life as they bring their debut album to fans around Australia.

PERMANENT VACATION is a social album, and in addition to this, there are songs of personal anxieties and hard-hitting relationships from the past few years. The usually introverted Louis best expresses himself through song to explain these experiences, ‘I only love you when you’re leaving’, a lyric from their lead single “Temper Temper” might best describe his love experiences of late.

The record has not only been crafted to share the band’s own stories but for listeners to relate, interpret and enjoy in their own ways. Oli explains, “we want people to find their own stories in this music. I hope you and your lover listen to “Can I Be Your Lover", break up and then that song makes you suffer. We’re trying to get inside your head.

It’s not all doom and gloom with the Sydney based siblings, as they still manage to have a laugh at society and themselves, Louis explains, “When we're writing together, we end up almost taking the piss. That's what we do together every day and so it ends up coming out in our songs.” You can hear it throughout the album on tracks like "Risky Love", "Naturally" and "Up In the Air”.

Keeping things positive, the band admit the lovely ladies of Sydney grab their attention, but being on the road and constantly driving between cities on tour, the band have discovered the beauty of the great Australian landscape, and themes of conservation and sustainability are ever-present in PERMANENT VACATION.  Oli explains, “it feels as though Australian’s are often looking overseas for inspiration but we really don’t have to look too far”. The pair recently returned from a drought relief event in Far North Queensland, with Oli noting “it was so isolated, so dry and so prehistoric. But just incredibly breathtaking”.

With Dave Hammer (Megan WashingtonThundamentals, Nicole Millar) in the producer’s seat, the band recorded the album across three studio sessions earlier this year, after whittling down to a select thirteen songs from the fifty songs they had written. The exhaustive song-writing process allowed the pair to truly craft a sound they were not only proud of, but one that was unequivocally theirs; now it’s yours.

To celebrate the release of PERMANENT VACATIONLime Cordiale had crowds heaving at The Lord Gladstone for their album launch party, giving fans a sneaky, steamy and intimate performance of some new tracks, as well as treating them to some of the band’s classics.

Unbeknown to some, Louis isn’t shy about picking up a brush, or better still, cutting lino to showcase his creative prowess, “lino cutting is a very time-consuming art form, requires a lot of attention but I find it meditative as an escape,” he says. All of Lime Cordiale’s cover art, merchandise, posters and other unique pieces of memorabilia created by the man himself, highlight the band’s artistic depth across the board.

In the lead up to the release of PERMANENT VACATION, the brothers proved their creative strengths by painting on The Lord Gladstone’s wall, drawing inspiration from conservation society Living OceanLouis notes, “I wanted to put a lighter spin on it, because those things are always really serious, in your face like “fuckin’, don’t eat fish idiot”.
