nyck release new single & video
Today, it is with great pleasure that 100s + 1000s share nyck’s (pronounced n.y.c.k) third single ‘This Might Be My Year’ from their forthcoming EP Alive out this Friday 9 June. Having premiered on triple j’s 2017 on Sunday night, the single comes with an intensely raw and beautiful video, which premiered yesterday via ToneDeaf. The clip captures the unexplainable feeling of sadness, as it turns to strength, clarity and a sense of comfort, once that fog of confusion has cleared; Realising there is light and hope on the other side.
On their first two singles, Nick Acquroff and Dominique Garrard aka nyck tell the story of how a relationship ends. ‘Speak My Mind’ the breaking point, ‘Decision’ the ultimate end. ‘This Might Be My Year’ marks the resolution.
“After long enough, when the things you had as your foundations change or you feel a little lost, you get this sense of resolve,” says Acquroff. “For me it was after this important conversation I had with someone really close. It cooled my anxiety because I knew we’d both be ok.”
With the new single and on the eve of the release of the Alive EP, nyck have delivered a triple punch by announcing a very special hometown EP showcase at Melbourne’s The Church of Bang Bang Boogaloo on Friday 14 July. The event will host a roll call of Melbourne musicians, bringing to life the journey of what Alive represents. This is not just a show, but a chance for music lovers to step inside their emotions, and be gently carried through what is sure to be a magical evening.
nyck have achieved critical acclaim both at home and overseas including nods from The Line Of Best Fit, triple j and various other Australian and international tastemakers. nyck have toured nationally with Amy Shark, supported Dope Lemon, Emma Louise, and Felix Reibl (Cat Empire) at major metropolitan rooms around Australia.
There will come a time when some of the foundations you’ve built for yourself break away. A relationship ends or you lose your job or you fail at something you never thought would fail. And then you’re left with this unfamiliar feeling about who you are and your place in the world. Sometimes you’re up in these times - sometimes you’re down. Either way, you’re alive.
Over the course of their debut EP Alive (out this Friday 9 June ), nyck write about this, composed in chronological order over the space of 12 weeks. Joyous and melancholic at the same time, Alive is a heartwarming, positive and emotional collection of songs.
