REVIEW: The Dropkick Murphys - The Forum, Melbourne

Last night, The Forum pulsed with raw energy as the Dropkick Murphys stormed the stage, opening with their anthemic The Boys Are Back. From the first note, the crowd—an eclectic mix of parents with kids, mates out for a laugh, and families bonding over beers and  belted-out choruses—was swept up in the band’s signature Celtic punk spirit.

The setlist was a marathon of fan favourites and deep cuts, showcasing the band’s legendary stamina as they power through this ambitious tour. Highlights included a rousing rendition of Rose Tattoo, which had the whole room swaying and singing, and the encore that capped the night: Shipping Up to Boston and The Workers Song. These final tracks resonated deeply, particularly with a heartfelt nod to Victoria’s union workers—a moment that felt both personal and powerful.

True to form, the night was packed with raucous chanting, nonstop jigging, and an abundance of camaraderie, fuelled by the band’s relentless energy and the crowd’s infectious enthusiasm. With another night still to come, the Dropkick Murphys have proven why they remain one of the most electric live punk rock acts on the planet.
