What's on the horizon for Perfect Moment?

Hey Alex, thanks for taking the time to chat with us, How have you been keeping yourself busy during this iso-time?

No worries, thanks for reaching out.

Well, fortunately, we're still able to head out for a jog. I love my time spent jogging. I listen to podcasts and demos etc. So, plenty of that. Plus, taking photos of flowers and home developing the film. Playing my piano. Watching Shetland. That's basically it. I've been fortunate.

Congrats on the release of your new single ‘Cruel Change Of Heart’ and your forthcoming EP!
Can you walk us through the new direction you’ve taken on this release? Can we expect more from you like this in the future?

Yeah sure. I've always been fascinated by the intersection between traditional singer/songwriter music and dance music. It kind of ends up being this strange third thing. You don't need a lot of space or gear to dig into that world so I went ahead and explored. The music I made felt very different to Oh Mercy, so, a new project name was required. And yeah, Perfect Moment will be a continuation of that exploration.

What do you have on your playlist at the moment? Has any of it shaped the new sound you have?

I've been listening to a Scottish band called The Blue Nile. They made this album, A Walk Across The Rooftop, it's incredible. I'm sure it's had an influence. There's a lot of space in their arrangements. I'm trying to carve that out too.

What was it like working with Kim Moyes on this release? How did the collaboration come about?

Kim is a very passionate and clever bloke. He helped my paint the Perfect Moment picture. I called him up and asked for help. He provided.

The new EP is totally DIY – you’ve created everything from the cover art to the videos to the music – was that a conscious decision or a result of the current lockdown situation?

Yeah, that's right. I get a lot of joy from making stuff. Photos, music, videos. It was little on the virtue of necessity side of things but mostly it was born from a desire to simply - make stuff. And to avoid diluting the joy that comes from that process. And yeah, it's meant that I'm able to work through the period of isolation. Lucky me.

What’s on the horizon for Perfect Moment?

The EP is out July 29th. I'll continue to make stuff.

Thanks for your time.
