RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY WEEKENDER REVEALS SYDNEY HARBOUR LOCATION, RED BULL RADIO POP-UP & TALK TO THE BREEZE AFTER-PARTY

SYDNEY, NSW (August 17, 2017) – Red Bull Music Academy makes a highly awaited return to Sydney this month, for the city’s sophomore Red Bull Music Academy Weekender. Techno-pioneer Carl Craig, alt-R&B star ABRA, revered activist Bunna Lawrie and more will descend upon Sydney’s distinctive boroughs from August 31- September 3.
 
Today, Red Bull Music Academy unveils the breathtaking Sydney Harbour location for the open-air Sky High event as luxury cruise yacht Bella Vista. Departing from the Man O War steps on September 2, attendees can enjoy the exceptional talents of Peven Everett, as he performs live at sea with a quartet, against uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour. The prodigious Chicago composer and vocalist, responsible for co-creating two-step and collaborating with the Gorillaz, will be joined by key local players J’NettCC DiscoThe Possé (live)Mike WhoBoogie MonsterMidnight Mutants (live), Adi Toohey and more, for an unforgettable afternoon of underground house, disco and boogie on Sydney’s open waters.
 
On Friday September 1, set against a backdrop of panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, one of Sydney’s best lookouts, Middle Head Fortifications, will host Talk to the Breeze, featuring pivotal Japanese composer and percussionist Midori Takada. Leading a Friday evening journey of transformative performance upon the ocean breeze, Takada will be joined by progressive rock and jazz outfit Krakatau and Wilson Tanner for a truly meditative ambient experience.
 
Friday night continues with a Talk to the Breeze after-party headlined by András (Wilson Tanner) at beloved Chippendale venue, Freda’s. Bumping up the tempo for an evening celebration, the unpredictable and expansive work of András will be heard alongside local crew Freda & Jackson, Hugo Gerani (Wilson Tanner), James Tom (Krakatau) and Mira Boru, for a post-reflective adventure geared towards the early hours of Saturday.
 
Across the duration of Red Bull Music Academy Weekender, Red Bull’s flagship digital radio station, Red Bull Radio, will boast a unique pop-up at Redfern’s 107 Projects. From Thursday, August 31 through to Sunday, September 3 - Red Bull Radio invites the public to meet some of the innovative artists on the Weekender program, and witness live interviews and DJ mixes alongside talks from some of the brightest creative minds making a cultural change in Sydney. Attendees can watch the action as it unfolds live through the pop-up station’s windows, when guests like NLV Records boss Nina Las VegasFuture Classic’s slow disco king Touch SensitiveStones Throw multi-instrumentalist Jonti, Melbourne-via-Uganda’s SK Simeon and South-West Sydney MC B Wise and DJ Klasik jump into the booth. Additionally, the city’s most reputed selectors are due to turn up, including Mad RacketKali of PicnicAdi TooheyDJ Ziggy and Andy Garvey of FBi Radio’s Pure Space. Academy alumna and prominent figure in Sydney's music scene Lorna Clarkson, and founder of Noise In My Head and Efficient Space RecordsMichael Kucyk, will lead the programming each day as hosts.
 
The pop-up station will take shape as an arresting geodesic dome, designed by Sydney creative Andy McDonell, who has executed spatial fit outs for the likes of Goodgod Small Club, Redfern’s Eathouse Diner, and more. The pop-up radio will be surrounded by the work of the festival’s visual designer, Nic Hamilton. Having worked with the likes of WarpHudson MohawkeActress and the London Chamber Orchestra, Hamilton is celebrated for his boundary pushing animation which will be on show in this multi-screen installation.
