A Quick Chat with P.Smid

Can you tell me a bit about your single ‘WESSIDE’?

I definitely wanted to incorporate a ‘beach vibe’’ so anywhere you play the tune it feels like summer. A masterpiece created with the intention of unity amongst the Western Sydney regions as they seem to constantly be at war. With the effects of all music raining in from Western Sydney I felt it was necessary to release a track in hopes of a positive message and optimism targeting the polynesian community as I myself have faced similar challenges as a pacific islander residing in Western Sydney.

What has been your favourite part of being in the Conscious program?

My favourite part would have to be the utmost amount of support that I receive from the whole CAC team, Lfresh the Lion and Villageboy Entertainment. Many times I get down on myself and feel like giving up entirely and my team keep pushing me to go all in, they open my eyes to the realism of chasing this dream, they believe in my talents and that is the type of support I was never surrounded by growing up.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with? Why?

It would be a dream to collaborate with Youngn Lips, he is definitely someone that inspired my decision to put out music as we are from the same area 2166, I would love for him to lay down a hook on one of my rap songs.

What / who inspires you and your lyrics?

Growing up I have been known to be quite ‘outspoken’ a lot of the topics I choose to write about have been a way to communicate my thoughts and opinions on how I think people should react in certain situations or basically trying to shape people minds to see certain views in different perspectives. My flow and lyricism is inspired by rappers Kendrick Lamar, Biggie Smalls, Logic and Joyner Lucas.

What are your three favourite albums of all time?

MADD CITY - Kendrick Lamar, Homicide - Logic, Anti - Rihanna

If you could change something about the Australian music industry, what would it be?

I can see the changes happening already but definitely normalising Australian music on all platforms whether its television, radio or social media. But more so capturing the multiculturalism that lies within our own borders. Growing up we have always been so Americanised, I have hopes to see various Australian music shows on regular television.

What has been your greatest career highlight so far?

100% being apart of Conscious Program is has been by far a real life blessing.

What’s next for P.Smid?

I plan to release a mixtape or E.P showcasing all of my rap songs with visuals included, I am working on setting a standard for myself rap wise and securing my place amongst the many big names in Australia so far utilising the knowledge and skills I have learned so far.
