A Quick Chat with Allegra Neve

Allegra! Big fan of your debut single ‘Rewind’. Tell us about the meaning of the song and what inspired it?

Awww, thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Rewind is about social anxiety and the sinking feeling I have when I feel like all eyes are watching me. It feels as though I’m spiraling out of control.

Who are your most played artists / releases right now?

Well, my most listened to bands makes it look like I am basically five different people because there are so many different things! But some of the most played artists/bands that are on my list are The Strokes, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, Beddy Rays and Dope Lemon. The same randomness goes for songs, but some of those songs are Maps by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, New York, Paris and London by HighSchool, Lavender by Biig Piig, Add It Up by Violent Femmes, Bandit by Sub Urban and Hard To Explain by The Strokes!

Do you have any weird talents or facts that people might not know about you?

There is one very odd fact about me and that is that wooden utensils actually make my spine crawl! I don’t know what it is but with the feeling it has I can barely hold them!

What’s it like juggling high-school commitments with your music?

I am super lucky with the balancing of music and school! I go to an awesome school which allows anyone creative to be creative. Music will always be my first priority and my school respects that and understands how important it is to me as it is my only path in life (so fingers crossed it works out hahaha).

If you could spend 24hrs with any artist dead or alive, who would it be?

Ohhh, that's a really tough question because there are so many inspirational artists I would love to spend a day with. There are a few people up very high in my list such as Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Karen Lee Orzolek and Julian Casablancas. Choosing one of those is basically impossible in my mind!

What three things would you have in your dream music studio?

These are really good questions! Well, I have a list of things that I would love in my studio, some of which are a Prophet synthesizer (due the absolute epicness it creates). A really nice microphone such as an AKG C12 VR, it has a beautiful sound plus its emerald green, and a marble raccoon sculpture that has strobe light eyes to spice the place up a bit.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with? Why?

Oh gosh! There are so so many people I would love to collaborate with but one of the main ones is Thom Yorke! I absolutely ADORE Radiohead's music. The musicality that is embedded into their songs is otherworldly, the melodies and lyrics hold incredible stories that I find could not be told in any other way. It would be a dream to work with him, he is a musical genius.

What show are you binging at the moment?

I have an obsession with binging old movies from the 80’s and 90’s such as Fight Club and The Lost Boys! Old movies have such a cool quality to them and I love the weird elements they have!

What’s your spirit animal, and why?

Oh my spirit animal is definitely a raccoon, they are my favourite! I love how they dig through trash to find their own treasures! Plus they are pretty darn adorable (when not rabidly chasing people)!

What more can we look forward to from Allegra Neve?

MORE MUSIC! I will definitely be releasing more music very soon, and will be doing some more live shows (which I would LOVE for anyone to come along to!), plus of course, staying socially awkward!
