A quick chat with Commandeur

AGWB LANDSCAPE.png

Tell us about already gone (the walls are bending)

agwb is a song that I started writing a couple of years back in New York. I had a chord progression and build up that had me really excited but, as is often the way, it sat on the back burner for a couple years waiting to be fully unlocked. I then had a session with Julian Hamilton late last year and I knew he would be perfect to help bring it to life. We fleshed it out in an afternoon and then had my friend Alex (Lola Scott) along to nail the vocal - it all felt very natural!

The theme of the song centres around a slow deterioration and warped sense of reality. Sometimes when you take in too much, be it a substances or even an influence in your life, you start to question what is and isn’t real - what are my own thoughts and what’s true? Am I too far gone or can I get out of this? agwb exists in the questioning phase before you tip over the edge.

What’s in stall for the debut live Commandeur show on March 20th at The Landsdowne?

The Lansdowne show is going to be a really special night! Live music has been my life for the past 16 years and this is the first time I get to fully orchestrate and bring all of my ideas to life - it’s something I have been looking forward to years! I’ve got a a band of friends joining me on stage and it only feels right to be hopping on the kit myself. I’ll also have a handful of feature vocalists joining me on stage.

What will the rest of 2021 look like for Commandeur?

With Covid impacting all of us over the past year and putting so many plans on hold it made me ready and rearing to be as active as possible in 2021! We've got more music in the wings, maybe a bigger body of work and more than anything I’m keen to get back on the road and develop the live show.

If you had to pick one outfit and one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

For the outfit I’d roll with a standard jean and tee combo with a bomber jacket to cover your social life but then underneath I’d wear boxers that could essentially double as shorts for exercise and swimming (beside the fact I hate boxers). For the meal I’d have a salmon steak with veggies and a side of sweet potato fries - you cover the health aspect but it’s also delicious and you get your greasy intake. Practicality played too much of a role in these answers!
